Coilover fitting how to?

Featured Replies

Going to fit some coilovers soon and no doubt it'll be pretty straighforward but I was hoping there might be a how to that I've missed. Always better to learn from other's experience what makes the job easier. Would also be handy to have all the part nos for replacing bolts etc if someone has already looked them up. For those who have done it, how did you find it and what tools did you need?

Thanks.

backs are straight forward, and i imagine the fronts arn't to bad but you need a spring compressor (if thats what they call them) thats the hardest bit really :)

This is really for a Golf, but I reckon the Fabia design is fairly similar. Biggest difference I'm aware of is that there's three bolts through the strut tops themselves to install the shocks rather than the single bolt design on the Golf. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong though, I haven't replaced my own suspension on any of my cars :)

you could use ratchet straps if you have those also

Ah, I was wondering about the spring compressers. Didn't know if I'd need them to fit the rears or not.

Spring compressors on ebay £15-£20

Not too bad either

If it's anything like the Polo (same chassis) the struts sit in a hub shoe which requires a fairly large spline (around 14mm IIRC?). Normal kits don't go this big so it'll be a separate purchase.

If it's not the same as the Polo, ignore the above statement! I'll confirm by checking mine after work.
