Changing Oil Type

Featured Replies

Picked up my 2005 vRS last, really pleased with it and looking on here its one of the highest spec ones I have seen, which has pleased me no end as I didnt realise how much of the spec was extra over the standard car until I read through various posts on here. I will post some pics at the weekend.

Anyway back to my question I am going to give it a service etc. It currently has Fuchs 5w-30 motor oil and I was going to change to Castrol Edge 5w-40, is it ok to just drain the old oil and change the type or do I need to flush or anything first.

Thanks again

Castrol is muck id stick with the fuchs

^Possibly true but to answer your question, no, no need to flush. Just drain and refill!

Fuchs ester synthetic stuff is the best, used to be called silkolene pro s or pro R if i remember correctly. it's expensive but they best!

If the oil meets the stringent VW specs ( VW 504/507) then it's O.K. Nothing wrong with the Castrol diesel VW504/507 spec oil.

Don't use engine flush as this will wash away the residual oil on the cam(s) of the engine. Most importantly, the cam drive that runs the fuel pump and is crucial to the operation of the unit injectors (Pump Deuse). It's better to have some oil, albeit slightly dirty, on the cam drive rather than no oil at all as starting up the engine for the first time will cause the most wear.

Ahem , VW 504 spec is for petrol engines. The Castrol Edge product that meets the Diesel Spec 507 also meets the petrol engine spec VW 504. This is clearly labelled on the Castrol Edge container. VW spec 507 supercedes the 505.01 spec . This Castrol Edge meets both the highest VW oil specs for both petrol & diesel engines.
