Oil required for Fabia vRS 2004 (54)

Featured Replies

Afternoon peeps!

Having only owned my Fabia vRS for 6 months, I have come to that point where I need to purchase some oil.

I've contacted Skoda and they recommend 5W-30 Fully Synthetic however, I've been told something like Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel 5W-40 engine oil will be fine.

Please can you confirm which oil is best as I want to make sure it's the correct one?

Many thanks

Only use VW504 grade oil if you don't want warranty problems.

Wrong. 505.01 is the minimum required for PD engines, otherwise you're risking future camshaft problems. 505.01, 506.00 or 507.00 are all fine, but don't use 505.00 or anything below.

Don't worry too much about the grades, the VW standards describe what makes the oil, not how viscous it is, so you may find both a 5w-30 AND a 5w-40 with approval. The long and short of it is, make 100% sure whatever you use is VW approved to 505.01 or higher.

I've found Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel 5W-40 4l for £31.49 from Euro Car Parts or Quantum Platinum 5W-40 5l for £32.50 from TPS.

What do you think is best value?

The Quantum Platinum 5W-40 Fully Synthetic says it's approved to VW 502 00 / 505 00 / 505 01. Could this be a problem?

I would say the Quantum as its the 5 ltr bottle. An oil change takes abot 4.5 litres so that will cover it. With the Castrol you will have to but more to complete the same job. Check out vwspares.co.uk they sell it Quantum for £24.90. Delivery is a fiver but if you buying other bits it's not so bad. I've used them many times. Good service.

Quantum is what VW and Skoda use. Its the correct oil. been using it my VRS. No problems.

I got this recently and it was 5-w40

No, that's approval to 505.01 which supersedes (and is compatible with) previous approvals. The problem would be if the OP went out and just found 504 oil (i.e. that was the highest number) because that would be wrong.

My skoda dealer sells the qunatum oil for about £15-20 for 5l. Give your local dealers a ring.

i got mine from TPS and it was only £23 quid

As said, try your local dealers and TPS. It's usually far cheaper than you might first think.
