Digital dashboard numbers

Featured Replies

I have a 07 plate Roomster2 with only 17,000 miles on the clock, on the dash the digital numbers which relate only to the total mileage seems to have lost the top half of the number 7! When it shows the trip mileage it seems to be ok when registering the numbers except for the top half of the number 7 again missing, what can be done and does it affect the MOT? I fear I may be looking at an expensive fix, but, could it be 'reset' by disconnecting the battery for a short while?

Denis.

The odometer is not part of the MOT Test. From what you describe this has to be faulty segments on the LCD display. Could just be bad soldering but as you say a new dash pod would be expensive. To check for dry joints would need removing of the dash pod - is it worth it ?

The speedo which again is not part of the MOT test is required by law. Although I guess even if pulled over by cops even a broken speedo should correctly show zero!

Obviously a Output Test with VCDS would quickly establish the broken segments. When doing an output test on mine I noticed that I only had a 1 for the tens of hours figure. Maybe not a fault but a cost cutting feature as it only needs to display blank or 1. I did think though that it can't really save any money to not have all 7 segments.

You will know for sure what segments are missing on that digit when you reach 18,000.

Do a VCDS Instruments Output Test if you get a chance.

Thankyou very much indeed for your answer and a huge sigh of relief from me!
