What would those engine-mounts retail at?

http://www.vibra-tec...da/fabia_5j_07_

The mount with the biggest impact is the lower engine torque mount just as devonutopia said. if you only buy the one mount that is the one to get.

Alex@AKS performance (username is IbizaAlex on briskoda) is the man to speak to. He was involved in the development of the first set. Same guy who sorted the H&R group buy.

New shape?

I passed one the other day and couldnt help but think it looked rather odd.....very nice from the back though

yep, brand new

Like the new ST, but also like the new VXR more! Both way to expensive though for essentially a hot hatch

it'll be an estate only though. Looking at the Octavia as well cos from what i gather the tax free deal is on again. You've got to buy to make a saving lol

And people think I change my mind a bit... :)

I might keep the Fabia though. We need two cars anyway.

I can understand that.

Always handy.

The only problem with fabia ownership is that constant thought in the back of your mind of the car going bang.

If you keep it Id detune it to stage 2 and have reliability back on your side again.

Not if you only keep it four days!;)

Took the RS for a test drive today. I was a little unimpressed as to the performance of the engine. The brakes and handling were awesome but the engine felt laboured compared to my Stage 2+ Octy. But that said it did sound awesome when giving it some.

It is something I have mentioned to APRpreviously. For obvious reasons they arent keen on the idea because it would be seen as a failure, but ultimately I want reliable power.

Thats impressive lol.

They are definitely over rated with the engine even when tuned. K04 TFSIs are much much quicker.= for some reason despite similar powers. It happened at th MLR 30-130 a few times when 400Hp+ RS's got spanked by 350hp Golfs and vRS's lol. Same thing happens on the 1/4 mile. Your right about hte handling and brakes though. And ultimately i would still have a Focus RS in an instant.

Had a spin in a std crTDI170 vRS earlier and i dont think i could have been any more under whelmed!!! I was expecting this diesel torque shove everyone raves about and its non existent. It felt sooooo soft and loose compared to mine as well. Having a modified car makes testing new cars hard.

Also had a look at a Black Focus ST estate today. Really liked the car, but not driven it yet. He's going to call me monday about an extended test drive.

Im now looking at the Focus 1.6 Ecoboost 150bhp. I dont do the driving I used to so I dont need a fast car anymore and the spec is as long as your arm. Keyless entry and start, DAB radio, Bluetooth , Auto dim rear view mirrors, Dual Climate etc. All that for just over 14k and cheaper road tax plus insurance. Id save £130 a year on road tax and well over £200 on insurance. PLus x amount of fuel. Its a no brainer but I do love my Octy. Though I could sell my exhaust, HPFP and SFS boost hoses an get bluefin to take it up to 193bhp and have an economical, good handling and well specced car.

Mountune have a kit for that engine taking it to 200Hp with Ford warranty.

Ive just been out in the Focus ST estate for a coule hours.

Comparisons ive made.

Performance

ST250 v Fabia Stock mode : The Focus is much much stronger.

ST250 v Fabia Stsge 3 98 map: Not even close, my Fabia is massively quicker in every gear especially in the midrange and feels alot stronger at the top end as well.

Steering

St250 v Fabia (Modified) The ST has much more responsive steering and feels like it has much more feedback and control than on the Fabia, however it had no where near the amount of grip or traction that my fabia has. The ST also torque steers MUCH more than the Fabia does which surprised me. Id love to have a combination of the Fabias grip with the feel and responsiveness of the ST. That would be a great package. The ST, running 235/R18 Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 tyres, has substantially less traction than my Fabia running 215/R17 Federal 595RS-R semi slicks which again surprised me as the roads are damp today.

Handling/ride comfort

St250 v Fabia (Modified) I thought my Fabia had really compliant setup and was only marginally stiffer than stock to drive daily, however it hasn't got a patch on the ST which is so comfy, quiet and rattle free over uneven surfaces. I was impressed with the STs compliance whilst retaining great handling. As above my fabia has alot more cornering grip and poise, but then again its quite heavily modified in that department and its substantially lighter than an ST3 estate. The brakes felt a bit pants compared to mine, not sure what they would feel like compared to stock fabia stoppers though, I cant remember that far back lol.

Build quality

The standout comparison is that the ST is SO much better built than the fabia. No rattles, no tyre or wind noise, everything feels nicer to the touch, when i got back in My Fabia it just felt cheap!

Space

Surprisingly i think the Fabia had more space particularly with leg room both in the front and back which i didnt expect. The boot on the estate obviously dwarfs my Fabia Hatch but from what i gather there is only 10litres more space in the ST estate V Fabia vRS Estate which is crazy!!

Would i buy it?

Im tempted to buy one. It was certainly more fun than the Octavia vRS Stock v Stock, and looks alot better, but i wasnt blown away by the performance either. Id like to try one again once Mountune release their 285Hp stage 1 package which apparently has a much stronger midrange. Id also love to see how this car performs with some ARBs and a LSD, as i reckon it would be very very impressive then.. Dont think ill be happy buying one just yet until i try the Mountune version or get a cabby in a modified one from the ST forums. I loved the looks as well. Very stealth!!

We all know there are plenty of geeks on here, so i thought id cater a post for you as well (although deep down im interested to know as well :giggle: )

Here are the weights of the Vibratechnik engine mounts. they are far far lighter than i thought they were going to be. Ill add the weight of the stock mounts once these have been fitted.

I was impressed too by the lack of tyre noise and wind noise from the focus mk3. I havent yet test driven the one I am looking at but I will be tommorow at 1500hrs. I have decided that I will just stick to a Bluefin remap if I get one. The mountune kit is awesome but the Mountune kit would only get 9bhp more and about 20lbs give or take more torque over the Bluefin. Superchips claim 193bhp from their map plus they have an offer on now so it is only £355 compare to over £1000 plus fitting for the Mountune. I know you get a better intercooler, intake box with the Mountune kit. I cant see it being nearly £900 better for what I want out of the car. Superchips has released a bluefin file for the St and by all accounts is getting good reviews from the press.

Speaking of fords, they want to hurry up and get the Fiesta ST out. I wonder how that will compare since Ford have had nearly 2 years more development time over the current breed of hot hatches.

I'd be tempted to chop in the Fabia for one of them depending how they go.

Well im rocking around in a 450hp Golf R for the next couple months so my power cravings are more than satisified lol.

I think it will go all right. If I'm completely honest, I'm not sure my stock VRS out-handles my wife's stock Fiesta. I can only imagine the ST would be a step up again in the handling stakes, and it should be (at least) a match in the performance arena.

Fords have always handled well though - I would have a Focus ST estate if it had more room and was a lot faster than the Fabia vRS estate I have, but its not so no point!

How come you've got that Si? Is yours going back to APR, or is this not APR's golf your talking about? Although there can't be that many 450bhp's golfs about lol!

  • Author

Yep, the APR Golf. What a car!!!!

Mine is in for some more R&D work on this misfire. The maps are sorted, its purely the hardware such as coil pack wiring loom and valve springs that are being looked into now. Also the APR Intercooler will be going on.

I've got he golf because i'm moving up to Scotland so its not as easy as me just nipping down the road to have it sorted, So Keith is using my car to commute, and im using his car to commute lol. Fair swap i think lol.

This Golf is horrific on fuel though, even when driven like a saint. I reckon on the 500 mile journey to my new house, ill be using about 2 full tanks!!
