hand brake track

Featured Replies

on my Mk2 Octie VRS TDI (57 plate) the hand brake lever has become stiffer to operate.

I had a look and the plastic cover that moves with the lever over the track has started to bunch up, pulling the brake on is ok, but releasing the lever requires some force to push the lever down.

Anyone else had this?

I dont see how you get to this piece of trim to rectify!

Cheers

Andy

Common problem on the Octavia, there was a thread on what was required to fix it.

I'll take a look...

The handbrake in my Octavia has just started doing this as well. But as I'll be P/Xing it as soon as my new car arrives I didn't fancy stripping out the housing as shown it the above thread.

Instead I've squirted some powdered graphite in the sides of the tracks below the handbrake, and operating the handbrake for a week or so this has now lubricated the sliding plastic strip so that it moves freely again. The graphite is sold as lock lubrication and was a less messy alternative to using oil etc.

Common problem. Parts have been on back order at the dealer (under waranty) for 3 months now.

Fixed it on the previous octavia with a bit of lubrication.
