Fitting a Parrot kit and a question on CAN gateways

Featured Replies

My last 3 cars have all had retrofit bluetooth kits, a Nokia CK7W and 2 Parrot CK3000s. I like how the Parrot works and, with the relevant Intellimute, how simple they are to connect together and make work. I know this won't work with Maxidot (which is a shame) but at a total cost of about 45 quid for a brand new one, I'm not that fussed. I would like the proper OEM kit, but until I fit a compatible headunit (ie one that allows the function to answer the call from the headunit's screen) I shan't bother.

Anyway - what I want to know from youse that have fitted either the CK3100 or CK3000 is, where did you put the controls? The obvious place for me is somewhere around the top of the headunit close to the edge of the fascia, but it's putting it in a position that will conceal the cable most effectively. I was also thinking of placing it to the right of the centre console, but it would be slightly obscured and not as easily accessible. Thoughts?

Also on the subject of CAN gateways, I assume my car has a CAN gateway otherwise it wouldn't work properly (I am not up on the subject of CANBUS) - I see that new CAN gateways can be fitted to avoid the battery draining on some replacement headunits - why is this necessary and what do they do?

I have a CK3100 fitted in my Octavia VRS a couple of weeks ago. Took the fitter about 45 mins to fit it. Put the controls just above the stereo under the hazard warning light switch. The top box was removed and the cable then goes in the dashboard between the dash (very flexible!) and the topbox.

Have you got an intellimute fitted?

I have a CK3000, it was fitted when I bought the car. The control is fitted just behind the gear stick. Dead easy to reach. The mic sits just right of my courtesy light.

Any chance of some pics please?

As for your question about CAN Gateways, if you have one previous to a revision L (approx mid to late 2007) and fit a Bolero or Columbus (depending on the age of the Bolero or Columbus) you will get a flat battery overnight as the CAN Gateway and HU are not compatible and the electrics stay on instead of powering down. This is in the majority of cases as you would need a very early Columbus or Bolero to not experience this.

You can get 'modded' firmware for some of the Columbus revisions to stop this and continue to use the earlier gateway. You cannot get modded firmware for a Bolero unfortunately.

Hope this helps!

Is it possible to find out which CAN gateway is fitted, without taking it out to look, or is it assumed that if my car was registered in march 07, it would be fitted with a specific type?
