205/55/16 tyre pressures

Featured Replies

Can anyone please provide the tyre pressures for 205 55 16 tyres. I have an Octavia vRS andIi'm about to fit 16" wheels and the manual, website and the petrol flap only state 17" & 18".

FYI this is for winter tyres, but i don't see this as being any different to the standard tyre pressures for summer tyre.

Many thanks in advance.

Just looked at my car.

On a 1.9 TDI the 205 55 16 tyres are:

Front 2.1 bar Rear 2.0 bar

(loaded) front 2.3 bar Rear 3.0 bar

Thank you very much FriendlyFire

+ 0.2 bar, because they're winters.

Trust me, can't be bothered to find the thread from last year on it.

Hi

I can't just remember what I put in the tyres (205x55x16) last winter but I do remember that the fronts need a good 4 - 6 psi more in than with the 18" alloys. I would try 36psi and see how you get on.

As a rough guide, if the pressure is right, if the tyres are dry and you drive along a damp or slightly muddy road, the tyres should be wet/dirty to the edge of the tread - if the wet does not reach the edge, they are too hard and if it goes onto the sidewall, they are too soft.

Cheers

Dave

Well I run my 1.8 TSi at 32 psi all round with both summer and winter tyres.

I do 1000 miles a week and find it handles well in all conditions.

Yes, for 205/55R16 tyres: 2.2 Bar front, 2.1 Bar rear and fully loaded 2.3 Bar front, 3.0 Bar rear + 0.2 Bar for winter tyres

Information from the inside of fuel filler flap and drivers handbook.

Thanks guys.

I've run winter tyres now for years and I have to say everyone seems to have a different idea about pressures. When i used then on a Volvo V70 classsic they were meant to be about 8 psi harder than the standard but tyre centers in the alps told me to run the same as the summer.

Oh and sorry if this has been covered before, but i did a comprehensive search in this fourm and under tyres.

Anyway thanks very much for your guidance.

I run winter 16" at 3 bar all tires last winter, but due to heavy weight Scout, they looked underinflated, thought went like a tank.

I ran my 205/55/16 winters at 2.4 bar all round last year.

Fitted them yesterday, and the ones that were on the front last year had worn slightly more in the centre, so were over inflated slightly. The rears looked fine (but didn't seem to have worn at all)

On my fuel filler flap for the PD140 it gives different pressures for the 110kw engine than then 103kw

The PD140 is 2.0 bar front and 2.1 rear

The PD170 is 2.1 bar front and 2.2 rear IIRC

I am running my winters at 2.1 bar all round (32psi) to see how they go - I might increase that to 2.2 when it gets colder.

At 2.4 bar they looked a bit 'flat' at the front, but look no different at 2.1 bar!

Spoke to Skoda Cust Services to see what they said for vRS CR TDi running on 205/55/R16 Winters.

They couldn't (or wouldn't?) say what the pressure was for winter tyres and recommended checking with a tyre place like Kwik Fit! Even though the manual says add 0.2bar to the summer pressures for winter tyres.

So by that they don't know what the summer tyre pressures are either.

I have a friend with a petrol FL Octavia SE so he has the 16" pressures listed on his filler cap as (for diesel):

Front 2.2, Rear 2.2, Front Loaded 2.3, Rear Loaded 3.0 (3.1 for larger diesel - 140 I guess)

Others have said 2.1 for the front, so not sure if I read his filler cap correctly or not.
