Its happened MK60 I suspect

Featured Replies

Having been away all week working and the octy left parked up at work, came back yesterday looking forward to a relaxing weekend.Gets in the car turns the key to be dazzled by the usual lights on the dash.pulls off and then noticed that the ESP light is still on :S first thing came to mind faulty pressure sensor so many have had trouble with.Got home calls up skoda dealer where i bought the car, explains what has happened,he then says to book it in so they can do a diagnostics test,£85.00+VAT.I said let me have a think and i'll come see you in person tomorrow,ok he said. This has just p1ssed on my weekend now, last thing anyone needs after being away working is to come back to this.

So i called in this morning and the guy said yes i remember talking to you yesterday, and goes on to explain it could be a number of things, but i said i think i know what is wrong, its the brake pressure sensor that have been failing on VW vehicles fitted with ESP,no answer to that, then he types up my details on the computer.oh your car is just over 3 three years old,yes i said. How many miles has it done, just over 20,000 i said, low mileage he said.Well i work away most of the time so i only really get to use the car over weekends/holidays and odd days off in the week.Oh your warranty is up also by 3 months he said.I said well if it is the MK60 fault its a manufacturing defect, where did you have the car last serviced,at an independent garage i used for some years when i had my subaru, they use genuine VW parts btw,oh well yes its entirely up to yourself where you get it serviced.I then asked him how much to do the diagnostics test.£71.00+VAT which is now less than what i was quoted on the phone yesterday, but mentioned nothing of it and got it booked in for Monday.

Driving back home i decided to call in at my usual garage and explained it to him,Yes i have heard about this fault, but only really known it to be more common on BMW cars,i can do a diagnostics test £30.00+VAT if you want me to do it.I said i'll have a think over the weekend. So my dilemma is do i go the Skoda route and hopefully get some goodwill gesture etc,or go to my independent pay the 30 quid and if i have to,send the ABS pump off and go the reconditioned route...

You may be able to get some money off going the Skoda route but they are bound to use the independant servicing against you. There is now a repair kit out for the pressure sensor fault, which will come up as G201 fault on the diagnostics, which any specialist garage should be able to fit which will be an awful lot cheaper if Skoda don't go your way. It always could just be an ABS sensor playing up too as I've heard of that happening.

Well thanks for telling me about the repair kit B) Although really the right thing should be done and VW do a recall on these pressure sensors its been long enough. Was actually thinking just the other day of going back too the dealer and trading my octy in for a new rs,I'm somewhat put off by having another octy or VW now,but i'll see what they say on Monday and go from that.Or i just buy the repair kit get it fitted and sell the car later. What got me a little suspect this morning though, was when i told the guy about the pressure sensors that have been failing after 3 years on vehicles fitted with ESP.The guy standing next to him(all suited and booted) looked at me then silently walked away into the mechanics area out the back.. :smirk:

Did you buy the car new?

Did you buy the car new?

It was five months old when i bought it,ex skoda manager car,i didn't want to wait the silly amount of weeks for a new new one,was actually intending on buying the limited edition, but that was even more x amount of weeks waiting.

still it came with all the usual warranty skoda assist etc.

Just thought i would give an update on this ESP malarky its been a PITA for a few of us.I'm still trying to get it sorted, had the diagnostics done last week looks like its the MODULE at fault and is gonna cost £800 accoding to the dealer, got a call from Skoda this morning basically saying they will offer to cover 40% of the cost. Not happy about this at all i'm just finding this to be a complete scam that me and others who have this defected module are having to pay the cost which at the moment for me is 60% .Ticking me off,Nobody from dealer called me this afternoon either, skoda told me someone would be calling..

Agree with you here.

Regardless of what Skoda thinks, the expected quality of a car usually means that expected life of important parts is about 6 years.

I'm sure that its been updated and in any case I thought it could be relatively cheaply repaired now.

Certainly the company that is/was reconditioning them offers a "lifetime" guarantee which suggests it wouldn't have been too hard to fix.
