London Bus Lane Camera and Red Lights

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I just got back from the supermarket, on the way there, an ambulance was trying to get through, as the first car in front, I tried to move to the side, but there isn't enough space for me and the bus would not budge. So I moved forward to the pedestrian crossing (no one crossing) bit of the traffic light, just outside the yellow box.

I noticed there weren't any traffic light camera, but there were some bus lane cameras (like this). Can they pick up activities such as running the light.

Just want to see if anyone know? I am prepare to put up a fight if I get a penalty notice.

Cheers!

I wouldnt have thought so, the only way to know for sure is wait 15 days and see if you recieve of Notice of Intended Prosecution through the post. If you dont hear anything within 15 days then you shouldnt have anything to worry about.

Thanks! Would wait for 15 days then! I would be very displeased if I get prosecuted for it.

Unlikely I'd have thought, the operator would probably be looking along the bus lane and not watching the junction.

Even if they saw it, it's not within that persons job to issue a penalty for anything other than driving in the bus lane in my opinion.

Anyway, it'd be on video so you could easily argue it.

Thanks for that, would fight for it if I get prosecuted, however I would prefer not to go through the whole debacle.

I drive an ambulance... don't think you have to go through the red light, its still illegal... if theres nowhere to go the ambo drive "should" turn off his siren, hand=g back and just wait for the lights to change, not force his way through....

at the end of the day we have excemtions for red lights, the police (and cameras ) will still do you if you go through them, even if its making way for emergancy vehicals.. :wonder:

I was shocked when i read up about it, only when a police officer indicates for you to go though a red light can you leagally do so :wonder:

How many people would wait at a red light whilst an emergancy vehicle is sat behind you on a call? The law should really be changed to: If it is safe to do so a driver can go though a red light to let and emergancy vehicle through.

Wonder how many points i'd have if i got caught for every time i let an ambulnce through by pulling over through a reed light lol

Tbh if someone tried to prosecute me in that situation they'd be told where to go (through the courts obviously).

Thanks, I remember there was a "blue light" discussion earlier, but when there is a ambulance behind me, I just cannot remember whether I can legally cross the red light or not.

For all I know, there is someone having a heart attack in the ambulance and every part of me is urging me to move out of the way, obviously in sensible situations. It just feels very very wrong and irresponsible just sitting there and crossing my arm when the light is flashing behind me.

Similarly, if the UK has a jaywalking law, and someone was stabbed in the other side of the road, should people just let him die?

to be honest people, I go through a red light if there's an emergancey vehical behaind me and nowhere for them to go, however, be awayre we are taught to go down the opposite carrigeway (right hand side of the lights) if there is a que at the red light... I only go through if there is absolutley nowhere else for them to go, and then I check there is nothing that could prosecute me if I do!

and I agree, if it went to court, its very unlikley the prosecution would stand...

end of the day I was was only respondidng that it is still illegal to go through the red light, so in theory a camera would bust you!

I remember the thread.

The cars were going at 30 mph on the other side of the road, and I didn't have enough space to maneuver into the side.

The thing is even if I remember the thread, it still seems completely wrong to cross my arms and sit there until the light turns green.

thats a nice educational video :)
