keys

Can anyone tell me how easy it is to to obtain new keys without resorting to cahanging barrels etc.

Full set of originals stolen.

If the keys were stolen, then I'd be getting new barrels unless you're keen for your car to go walkies.

If the insurance get wind you knew the keys were stolen and dont take action they may void any future claims.

Thanks for the response, car is in germany at moment (my daughters) and is immobilised (battery off). She is moving to another location in Germany about 150 miles away, so shouldnt be a problem just replacing keys, just wondered how easy it is to get them.

Shouldn't be too much of a problem. A dealer can get keys cut to the key number on Skodas records and they will need the car to program them to the immobiliser.

Once the keys are programmed any existing keys will not be authorised and won't start the car. It's really a question of cost, a basic key is around £40 to £50, much the same price as remote locking keys, with remotes at around the same again.

You may be asked to provide proof of identification and entitlement and pay in advance for the keys, but bear in mind that keys will be cut to the number that was recorded when the car was built, if it has any lock changes since you may end up with keys that don't fit.

thanks for the info, much appreciated

Easier and cheaper for you to call an auto locksmith. He can do the complete job in one hit. also he will come to you rather than you waiting for keys from the dealer, then transporting the car to them.

Good Luck
