Scanners

Featured Replies

I need to buy a scanner so that i can copy letters and put them on my computer. Any recommendations or ones to avoid.

I use the A4 scanner on my Epson 3 in 1 printer without any problems.

Seems a-little strange to require just a scanner without a printer facility, unless it is an A3 scanner that you require?

Check-out E-Bay for either unit required.

On the contrary, I would always have a separate scanner. Multifunction devices are fine, but they're often unwieldy with a large footprint and as is the way these days, when they fail they're insane costs to repair so you may end up binning a perfectly good printer just because it won't scan properly. With a separate scanner, you just buy whatever you need, and you can keep it out of harms way until you sit down once a week or however long you plan on having a letter scanning session.

We've got a mix of HP and Canon here, HP software tends to be quite bloaty and will take over your machine and install all sorts of pointless stuff, Canon seems a bit cleaner. They all do the job though, turn a physical page into a PDF.

The Canon LiDE range are supposed to be very good, and fast start-up times. I personally use an ancient Epson that requires a SCSI interface card to operate, but only because it is so well made.

I use a Canon MP760, which is now a bit long it the tooth however the practicality of having a scanner, Photo/Document & CD/DVD printer all in one box and in a relatively small footprint more than makes up for it.

I know that the next generation of Canon Multifunctionals are highly rated for print & scan quality as well as reasonable running costs, plus the flexibility of auto duplex printing.

If you have a smartphone then there is a free app to create scans and pdfs

Out here in China I dont have access to my scanner, so I use my DSLR instead :giggle:

Funny you should mention that, I often use my iPhone to 'photograph' articles in the newspapers at work if they are of particular interest.

Import them to my iMac when I'm home and simply 'crop' them to the desired size. emoticon-0105-wink.gif

I use a HP 8500 and for backup a HP 4500. Both wireless multi function printers.

On the mac you don't need and additional software, just what comes with OSX.

I have 2 of most IT equipment so I can still work if one goes wrong. I have 3 year warranty on the 8500, and it will probably need replacing then. Duplex sheet feed scanner & printer. Brilliant piece of kit. Being self employed it is all offset against tax.

Oh yes, forgot to mention, I photograph documents every day using my G12 when with a client. I could use the iPhone and one of the apps I have as well.

I have an Epson V500 which has been faultless and scans all sorts, slides, negatives, the lot. If I'm out and about I use scan to pdf on my HTC phone (Android)
