Fuel tank drilled

Featured Replies

Sorry to hear this Cliff, happened to me many years back on a full 50 litre tank of petrol. They were doing a lot of fuel & Cat' thefts at the time oh & window smashing! Cut my fuel pipe & took some in a can, just let the remaining flood into the parking area & find a drain. In answer to Jason's question, they let most of it go to waste usually, just fill a can or two. As previously mentioned, I started only half filling & parking the other way round. Since it was an easy to access section of fuel pipe they cut. I replaced it with a toughened pipe, rerouted it a little & screwed a metal plate over the exposed section to slow em down a tad!

Never happened again!

Ouch that sucks

Ive heard about such things happening but not in Gloucester and not recently!

Dont think ill be parking my car anywhere dodgy for a while haha

I feel to add security cliff, you need to lower bother cars heavily

I only hope that one day I get to see some scroat try and drill my LPG Tank :D Must have a video camera running when they do as well. I do feel for you though as the cost of filling up is bad enough but it the hassle of getting and fiting a replacement tank that is the ball breaker

Shocking, if I caught somebody doing that to any of my vehicles there's no doubt about it, I would cacoon them in gaffa tape and chuck em in the pickup and take them to woods and tie them to a tree, then pour said petrol on them.

Well tank has been patched over the weekend and is unsurprisingly much better.

Rather than pouring out the hole fuel now very slowly seeps out the hole and through the patching material :(

That said an early morning raid on my local breakers has picked up a new tank for £45 bringing the total cost so far to just over £100 (for what was someone probably stealing about £15's worth of fuel)

Now all I need to do is get it fitted :S Something tells me that is NOT a DIY job!

Just seen this, we have a coach party in at the momment, the driver said it happened to him recently he only got 3 miles from his sett off point, and thought his gauge most have been faulty, so he fills up and drives off and he could see the needle falling. Gangs are targetting mainly diesels

seepage through the petropatch is not good now

garage stinks and i'm sure i lost about a litre last night

luckily car is booked in for Saturday morning to have it's new tank fitted

Shame really as running with the fuel light constanly on, as well as a 5l can in the passenger footwell and cabin filled with fumes has become quite pleasureable! lol

Woo hoo - free buzz. :D

Shame the patch didn't work out mate :(

Would have been a cheap fix if it had worked better...

Happened to my fiance's brother outside his new flat. Sodding gypo pikey types! Need putting on an island together and blowing up... kinda like what they did on that french film - District 13

Before I saw that the repair had failed, was going to suggest the washer ,with Petropatch, and to hold it in place a small plasterboard (butterfly type) .Put the washer et all on the screw ,attach the butterfly ,insert butterfly into hole ,add petropatch around tank/washer junction and tighten .The butterfly will spread on the inside of the tank to help keep the patch in place .Another idea is another plasterboard fixing -this time it looks like a rubber tube with a brass threa inside .Use this to block hole ,add petropatch .
