The oem stuff is generally prefered. I got it from here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-SEAT-Quantum-PD-Platinum-5w-40-Engine-Oil-5-Ltrs-Audi-VW-made-Castrol-/200667044543?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2eb8b01abf

but might be cheaper at your local dealer.

Beat me to it!

What engine are we talking about?

Definately not semi-synth then. It needs to meet the appropriate VW spec 505.01 or what ever it is.

You got it right when you said VW505.01 :)

I use Millers XFE-PD oil which IS a Semi-synthetic. It meets the required spec for our engine (505.01, 5W-40). I think most 505.01 oils are Semi-synthetic. The oil required does not have to be a Semi-synth, it just have to meet the VW spec and Viscosity.

However, I think most of the long life oils (504/507) are fully synthetic, not a semi.

Use the any of the recommended oils as in the sticky thread, they are all the correct grade.

It's all as clear as the oil in a diesel engine.
