Price and specification changes

Featured Replies

Having decided to delay the purchase of a new Yeti till the New Year, local dealer "warned" us that Skoda always issue new (higher?) price lists in January.

Is this just salemanship or .......

Also do Skoda change the specification on a yearly, 6 monthly basis and when does this occur ?

With 6 month or more build times am I in danger anyway of ending up with a different spec or priced vehicle even if I do place an order now?

Your price is fixed at purchase - so if there are any price increases in that time you would not expect to pay them.

You are forming a contract to supply a vehicle at a certain spec for a certain price.

Trade-in prices are also fixed as the price they give you is based on expected delivery times.

If specifications drop you would expect to keep the specification you ordered.

If specifications increase there is no guarantee you'll get the upgrades, but by the time your car hits production you might just get them.

The November 2011 version of the Yeti brochure has just been published on the Skoda UK website - with what looks like more price rises over the old version. The specs seem the same, still with no DAB radio options!

Thanks for the comments

Had a look at the Nov 11 brochure, Yeti Greenline prices look the same as in Jun11 brochure ( although I can not find my copy now !)but havent done a detailed compare

Suppose they've got to recover some of the "Zero VAT" concession offered up to December on Octy on a spread across models - can't all be recovered from increased sales of Octys.

I would expect that, in-line with previous practice, e.g. on Fabs, once the sales have been established for the new models they'll start shaving costs by cutting back the spec at the periphery - v. noticebale if you compare what's detailed in the owner's manual with the spec of my late model MK 1 Fab.

In general, you will find that car manufacturers will decide on the spec of the next years car & start producing them in Sept for the next years run. However in general what you will find, is that the only change in the new year will be a price increase.

Which is what I noticed after I picked up my Octy last Xmas, the price went up, but there wasnt any increase in spec.

If I was in your shoes i would ask for specifics around what the salesman is talking about before delay ordering the car

I would check out the price promise situation when placing the order. I bought a Kia Sorrento when they first came out and put a deposit on it. Whilst waiting for delivery the price went up by £500 which was passed to, yes you've guessed it, me. I was given a choice take it or leave it basically. Check the small print and get any promises in writing especially a price promise or a trade in value if there is a long wait time.
