Apple Alternate pad - Android

Featured Replies

I purchased an Advent Vega from PC world just under a year ago, the Android software that came on it was hacked about so I couldnt use the Market place. ( i have an Android phone )

I found a stable ROM that was Andriod 2.2, & started to install, at 1 point I had thought I had turned it into a brick, but this machine is virtually impossible to brick as the restore function it has is so straight forward to restore, follow the provided instructions & its so easy.

At the second attempt I got it on and it was just like running my phone ( except you cant make calls emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif ), i had access to the market place & have been happily running it without any major issues - Except 1, after the last Briskoda upgrade, i couldnt post on the site, I had to use my laptop. emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif .

I have been waiting for a version of Honeycomb to become available, & had found a stable version with an Update pack that took care of previously reported niggles. I bit the bullet & yesterday loaded this onto my Advent.

emoticon-0148-yes.gifemoticon-0148-yes.gif WOW, who needs to buy an expensive apple pad with all the apps available in the marketplace youre easily covered, Winamp for music, Kindle if you want books, access to youtube, BBC iplayer etc, WiFi works, ALL 3 Angry birds.

Its like having a new pad again.

You probably can use the briskoda site, but you may need to enter about:useragent into the URL line first. You can then select Desktop and it should work correctly, otherwise download & install Opera Mobile and I know that it works with that.

Not everyone is IT competant, or even adventerous, & who has silly money to pay out on Apple products ( which historically have ALWAYS been comparitively expensive) when money is tight today.

I had been looking at other pads with this OS on but being reasonably IT competant & adventerous, I decided to upgrade.

A donation to the developers of this open system has been far better value for money than buying a new pad.

Having been looking at various tablets recently for work, i was supprised just how competitively priced the iPad is compared to brand name Android tablets of a similar spec.

Its definitely possible to get Android tablets ridiculously cheap these days, but the spec and build quality of most of the ones i've seen is almost laughable.

that may be true of some but not all. I picked up a 32 Gb wi fi and 3g motorola xoom for £333. The equivalent ipad was £589. The xoom actually feels much more robust than the ipad.

It also came with a free bluetooth keyboard and mouse if bought during October.

On the stock android browser briskoda looks odd but Opera does the job nicely. Other good thing about androids is you can install alternative keyboards so that you can find one that suits you.
