Perhaps you are being especially polite for the sake of members' sensibilities, beej, but in my experience an Australian would usually put another word between 'The' and '[object]'.

      My Yeti is called 'my car' or 'the car'. Sometimes the former to avoid the ambiguity of the latter since there are usually 2 cars in our driveway, and so as not to confuse said car with my wife's work

    Only ever owning one car at a time, which ever one it has been, it has only been known as 'the car', neither does it have a gender. :no:
