Drivers door won't open.

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Upon unlocking, the chrome rod thing pops up, as usual, but when you pull the handle the door appears to still be locked.

It won't open from the inside either.

So far I've tried locking/unlocking a few times, unlocking with the key rather than the remote, opening from the inside..............

none of these options have worked.

I've had a quick search but nothing along the same lines came up. Very odd, as I have been in and out of the car all week.

Anyone know what it can be please? I'm a bit stuck here.

Thanks, Iain.

Give the door a hit with the palm of your hand....in the area from the handle to about the swag line about 20cm down...this should shock the lock mech open as it seems to just be sticking...might take several goes...worked on my mates Lupo! B)

Then go back and use WD40 on the visiable bits of the lock mech!!

Thanks for the reply, I tried it, but it didn't work.

Followed a couple of guides on removal of door cards whilst the door is shut, got the card off and had a butchers but couldn't see anything amiss

(compared it to passenger side assembly.

Baffled, as I've been in and out of the car all week. I'm told by a few sources it may be the lock mechanism itself, so its booked in at the local garage next week.

In the meantime, I'll just have to look a pudding getting out of the passenger side

My passenger door did a similar thing where it would unlock only after about 10 attempts. I managed to strip it down and get the mechanism coated with WD40 and it seems to have been fine since.

My old Polo had dodgy door seals, and all but the rear passenger door were frozen shut on several mornings. I got some funny looks from the neighbours climbing in from the back emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

I had exactly the same problem on mine it might be worth double checking to see if the control cable has come off the door opening handle on the inside.

If it is this you need to clip the metal disc on the end of the cable back on the lever.

Good luck with sorting it out
