Pah. I'm always the last to know. I almost went to Halfords! Phew. ;)

If you had been a Freedom member you would also of got a 15% discount

What's your vedict on the new bulbs, worth an investment?

Been using these. They work really well - got the H1's as well. The combination on a dark road is seriously bright - the reflection of road signs and cats eyes is so bright it's practically blinding.

However life expectancy is terrible - H7's lasted under a year (did about 15,000 miles when first one went).

Osram Nightbreakers also get good test results and they are meant to have a longer life than the previous version of the same.

Not sure about the claims that you can see further on dipped beams. The beam cut-off prevents that.

I use the H1 and H7 but the difference from standard is not hugely different but certainly noticeable.

Good luck with Powerbulbs- I'd a bad experience dealing with them.

Yeah absolutely, head and shoulders above the OEM's !

I'd never be mistaken for a BMW, but the colouring is far whiter and the road lights up far far better on these dark country lanes - if I had known it was such a simple job to get better lighting I would have done it years ago!

My Fabia VRS (Which I had for a couple of years previous to the Octy) was also dire in the dark - if only I'd known then, for some reason I thought all bulbs were equal by law and only the reflectors in the clusters changed... ho hum live n learn.

I have Ring Xenon Max fitted, give exactly the same light output as Osrams (I have had both fitted to compare) but are less than 15 quid on the bay! B)

Philips Extreme fitted and............no difference whatsoever. Waste of money and yet another load of cobblers - right up there with Redex and other money wasting carp. Standard bulbs are as good as it gets IMHO.

I can't comment on the Philips, but the Ring Xenon Max I have are a lot better than OEM, and at £13.95 they didn't break the bank, compared to xenons however................pants!

Have tried X-tremes and Nightbreakers in my Octavia - both very much improved over standard.

Nightbreakers didn't last very long at all - only about 1/3 compared to the X-Tremes.

Powerbulbs have consistently given good service but forgot to use my Freedom discount code on my last order  15% off would have really helped.

Well worth the investment IMO

Do you know what you were changing from?

My lights were from new, almost 3 years old and I have always thought them below par (Full beam is good though)

Half way through fitting I had one side with new bulbs, only in twilight mind you and I put dipped on and the difference left / right was night and day.

I may put one OEM back, take a photo to show you when I get a spare 30 mins / can be arsed.

With regards to redex, it was great, back when we had carbs; used to take air filter off and dunk an entire tub full down my (twin) webbers on my Renault 5 and my Austin(cough)MG Maestro.

The mistake people made was putting it in their fuel. Straight down the hole it should go, cleaned everything right out, once a quarter or so. Plenty of revs and 10 minutes of acrid smoke. Marvelous times.

Do they still sell it ?

ordered on Tuesday received yesterday with freedom discount, just waiting to fit tomorrow

Has anybody thought about the Philips Blue Vision Extreme?

Had these in the 1.8T 4x4 ,, for 6 years, no probs.

I would be interested to see a difference. Wondering if it's worth changing and the head/side lights as I get the discount but my lights are currently working fine. I do however drive some dark roads on the way home from work so would be interested in better dipped light. High beam is spot on especially with fogs too. Wish there was a way of wiring the 2 together

I was changing from stock - 3 months old. I only did one bulb and a "before and after" and there was no difference. Not just me either - I had the missus and two friends and did a "blind" test and they couldn't tel any difference. Before somebody asks - yes they are genuine Philips as well.

Very disappointed that I effectly wasted £28.

Tbh... I have noticed the difference, but OEM's are 2 years old so might be different to newer models??
