Autocar wet test winters at 10 deg

They tested a set of Michelin summer tyre's (they described them incorrectly as all season) against Michelin winters at 10 deg ambient. In all but braking the winters came out on top.

From my own experience of both winters and premium brand proper M+S all season tyres I would concur with their findings; both better than summers in lowish temps and wet weather.

Wow ,I love that pneumatic jack.

Where can you buy them?:p

My winter Sottozero's are a lot better through standing water than my Conti Sports although the Conti's are 30mm wider which wont help.

I would concurr.... at the recent weston meet (16 celcius!) I'd just had my winters on, and although they were not as good on the hot dry roads, they rocked on the greasy, wet, no-grip, moss covered hill climb we did ;)

One issue that I would have about that Autocar test, on mainland Europe etc, it is considered "best practise" to use narrower taller winter tyres, and they swopped tyres "size for size", I wonder how doing that would have altered the results. As someone having Michelin tyres on both cars, I can say that both the Primacy HP and the Pilot Exalto are not just "summer" tyres but really "only summer use" tyres - I can't believe that these tyrs are being sold in Northern UK as most of them will end up seeing winter usage. Strange but true, my daughter's Ibiza SC came from factory fitted with Goodyear Excellance all weather tyres - this was really good news as she had opted for the "bigger/wider" wheel option.

interesting stuff. Given that this Summer it has been predominantly wet and around the 10-15 degrees mark maybe I should just keep the winters on all year :wonder:

Had the Excellence on the first Yeti (225/50 R17), found them very poor in snow, ice and frost. These are the tyres that convinced me to start using winters.
