Reading Light LED

Featured Replies

Hi,

Is it a major job to change the two LED's on the reading light, and are other colors available, and where can one get them?

The individually ones are not LED's but can be replaced with LED's easily enough.

If you mean the red ambient ones? then they are pretty easy to change if you can solder, thousands of different coloured LED's on eBay

Hi All,

Anyone got an easy to follow A-Z on replacing reading light LED's on Superb Classic 07? I know ebay or most electronic shops will have them but what LED spec do I look for in regard to the replacement LED's? Is it too tech a job, I have a little 70W solder kit. Whats best way to remove the reading light and is there enough play/slack in the wiring to go about the job easily?

All good advice welcome,

fonaspin

when fitting led interior lights ie roof/footwell/door handles, does it not bring up any error codes on the dashboard.? or is the only if you fit external led bulbs?

Only external.

Do we have any autosparks who can advise the A-Z on how to replace the Ambient LED's on the interior reading light....not the white lights now the little colored LED's in the center of the reading light...there are two?

I know how to disconnect the light from the ceiling, will the light unit detach from the wiring ? This would make the changing of the LED's much simpler. Lets asssume that is so...now I have the unit on a workbench, is it simply a matter of melting the solder and refitting new LED's? If so great, if not do advise. What is the EXACT specification Im looking for when purchasing replacements and are there any recommended LED companies I should look for or are they all one standard? The current LED part of the unit is working and the light given is adequate....BUT .....what are the lighting power limits I can use on the LED, can I go highher?

In regard to solder is there an exact type or spec of solder that must be used I have some Sn99. Cu0.7 0.7mm FluxA11 ?

I've seen a few people claiming to have done this on some of the VW forums. You should google "w8 change led vw" or similar.

This post here has some instructions from one poster:

You might also want to look at this PDF:

http://www.billswebspace.com/ECSTuningW8OverheadLightInstallation.pdf

This shows the installation of the W8 light cluster in a car without it. While this isn't what you want to do, you can see a lot of the the process there for remove / connect the light module. It looks like all the connections are on connectors - so you should be able to remove the module from the car to work on it.

I'm not an autospark but I have done a fair bit of surface mount rework soldering in my recent past, all self taught. What I would say to you is have a look at the board once you have it out. If it looks like stuff you've desoldered and them re-soldered in the past quickly and easily with the iron you have then go for it. If not, try and find a scap PCB from somewhere and have some training attempts on similar looking parts. Soldering most components (until you get up to very fine pitch IC's) is actually pretty easy. The art is in the desoldering and removal of old components without damaging the part you want to keep.

Hi,

Cheers, great tips there. Im going to get the light fixed by a local guy who has super experience on all Skoda Superbs over recent years, new module installed , so just a matter of locating the faulty node wiring and fixing same.

Many thanks,

fonaspin
