I drove to work

Featured Replies

Yes I know a lot of you drive to work. I don't normally as I live in East London and work in West London. So the Tube takes me to work or my Cannondale bicycle. But a colleague is car shopping and he is thinking Peugeot 508 (shudder!!!) to replace his two door Audi A3 that is getting too small and inconvenient with two kids on tow. So I showed him the Superb brochure and told him all about the Yeti and how it parks itself. So had to drive in to come and show him the car. His wife's response on seeing the Superb brochure was "But it's a Škoda!!!" Dearie me....... I think he will in the end buy the Pug and get to know his dealer's service manager on first name terms. I've told him as much, but still, he likes the look of the Pug.

Anyway, back OT: what a relaxing drive it was. Through all of London (through Hackney, Dalston, Angel, Kings Cross, Paddington and then into Kensington). Heated seat on number 1, BBC London telling me about the students going to roit later today in central London, DSG shifting the gears for me, sunroof to look at all the new tall buildings... Bliss. Utter and total bliss. I did not get stressed once. All the car's fault I say. An automatic gearbox and comfy seats goes a LONG way to keep one focused on the task at hand when driving I have to say. Sitting high up also has a great deal to do with it of course. The same drive in Magnus (the MX-5) is not nearly as much fun as you sit an inch from the tarmac, have terrible rear three quarter view out roof up and have to row the gears yourself. Of course Magnus wants sunny days on rolling country roads and not city commuting. But then the Yeti loves fast rolling country roads too... So best of both worlds. Excellent city car and excellent cross country car. Happier I still can't be with my Yeti.

Now you know how I feel driving around South London every dayemoticon-0136-giggle.gif, for me up to Dulwich, across to Roehampton, probably lunch in Richmond Park, then back home to Croydon to see another client.

I drive in every day to East London in the Greenline II Fabia. :) averaging 73mpg. (obviously not the urban cycle!)

But as you can probably guess, the Yeti always comes out at the weekend for pottering about the countryside.

But the Fabia is being replaced in March with a diesel Yeti.

Work?

What's that all about?

Actually, where is this place called London? :giggle:

Concur :D

The other week that marvellous invention that is the Garmin sat nav traffic, took me away from a heavily congested M25 through the equally congested south western suburbs of Greater Londinium. From recollection over 2 hours to travel 26 miles :swear:

Oh did that to me in July; off the Brussels ring road straight through the heart of the city in the middle of the afternoon :swear: :swear: :swear: Not an experience I would recommend even in a Yeti

Whoever brought the idea of cities to Britannia should have been deported before they had chance to create mayhem

Get y'sen a Tom Tom. Mine guided me from Hebden Bridge to Hull yesterday morning in the rush hour. Now I would normally have joined the M62 at Ainley Top, near Halifax/Huddersfield, and then headed East. Had I done so I'd have sat in the most almighty traffic jam past Bradford (where the M62 has cobbles, :giggle: ). Tom Tom diverted me up on to the hills, on amazing, empty, country lanes I never knew existed, looking down on the chaos on the motorway below. Eventually joined M62 at Tingley where the traffic had thinned out. Eighty miles, an hour and 40 minutes, door to door. Pretty good I reckon.

Up until a couple of years ago I loved setting off all over the UK and sometimes well down into Europe on my own in my own space, radio on.Even driving into the City and Chelsea Harbour.

I have also got lost in Brussels, Antwerp and various bits of Germany but Garmin woman has eventually rescued me but one filthy day on the way back from Frankfurt to the Rotterdam ferry on my own I finally decided I had had enough

First company car at 24 now 35 years on and around 1.25 million miles later still love driving but with some company or of to fairly remote spots with our lass.

Must agree with Johann though first impressions of the car in particular all the light from the sunroof and with the DSG as on the Octavia pretty good. Was going to take him on his first fishing trip today but its :rain: peeing it down

Cheers

I work from home these days after my job was shipped off to the South of England but I di nip out to the gym at lunchtimes and today I drove back with the sunroof open as it is such a gorgeous day - and so mild again. Two days ago they were gritting the roads and today I had the sunroof open. Madness.

I'll let you all know when I get to work later.

Pleasant drive to work this afternoon.

Left home at 1615, and drove towards a beauttiful full(?) moon, with a few clouds in the sky.

The usual amount of traffic in Newtown to delay me a little, then a quick trip into the Co-op to get some essentail supplies.

Continue onward, heading east now, still with a beautiful moon in the sky, and mountains to my right. Very little on the road now, until I hit the A49 in Craven Arms.

Quick trip southwards, turn left and at 1730 I'm locking the car and climbing the stairs to take over for my 12 hour shift.

And in the morning I will go home, hopefully with a beautiful sunrise in my mirrors.

Y'know graham from Llanidloes, you have made me think....I know, I know - FRESHACRE , thinking? Oh dear - what IS coming next?Well - I'll tell you! It's a tale of the journey from up on the Epynt (where numerous rallies take place) (in cars, that is), where night lights have a different meaning as they're provided by the Military from some sort of hanging incendiary firework of mammoth proportions... ... ... ...to the old mining town of Aberdare at the top of the famous "Valleys" - via the delightful market town of Brecon on the way.It starts at a smidgin after 9 in the morning, and only on 2 or 3 mornings in the week as, being in a delightful jobshare with the Boss, we split the week in companionably. I've actually only met him on about three occasion, and that's OK, so long as no-one asks me what he looks like. And as this journey begins just after nine, and takes 50 minutes no matter what the weather, what the traffic, what the school-olidaze, what the farming activity, means that this Yeti owner-driver will arrive amongst the "comfy" opposition". So - here we go...

Bore Da George!!
