Service Spanner and Oil Flashing

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This morning my services spanner came on and it was flashing Oil under the millage. Does this mean it needs an oil service or needs oil?? i put a litre of oil in this morning to top it up and it has not gone away.

After about 5 mins of driving it does stop flashing OIL and goes back to the journey millage.

Service Spanner means a service?

When was the last one?

Have you read the manual?

It tells you what all this means and how to reset it if its been done recently.

Always RTFM!!!

If i had a manual for my car i would RTFM!!!! hence my post on here asking a simple question....

G-Tee, I had it serviced 4000 mile ago when there was no service spanner on. So should i just pass this off as being a a service warning?

Before doing anything-does the Vrs use variable servicing ?.If not ,like the other Furbies ,then on mine it's press and hold the mileage trip .If it is on variable service ,I believe that it can only be done with Vagcom or you revert to fixed ( or is that just the Octavia)

Fabia's are fixed interval servicing!

And you cant reset the service indicator via the dash pod unless it's displaying a service/oil change is required!

umm i hoped u checked the oil level b4 u put a liter of oil in

if not u will have to drain some out. too much oil is as bas as not enough

Hi thanks for the help,

Chers for the manual ill save it as a pdf for future ref...

I did check the dip stick and it was more or less on minimum. so dropped in a litre. Still getting used to my VRS only had it a few month pushing at least 2000 mile a month through her. got another question but ill put that in a new topic.

Cheers

Dan

My guess is that the service interval was never reset when the car got serviced.

The Fabia will be fixed 10K/365 days interval I believe.

If it was serviced 4K ago, then I'd just reset it.

+1 if you've only done 4k since the last service just reset it. You can do this by pushing in the mileometer (i think that's what its called) while you turn the ignition and hold it in for ten or so seconds, then turn to the right and your spanner will disappear :)

The spanner seems to have a mind of its own. The first two anniversaries of my 2004vRS it didn't come on. Subsequent ones did. Then my 2007vRS came on after ten months (and about 5k)...

This is reassuring as it just happened on mine. I'll reset it in a bizzle
