Lumpy engine with DPF regen

Featured Replies

My car is just over a year old with 16,000 miles. 105 1.6 CR

I have noticed that if the DPF regen kicks in the engine feels really lumpy , sounds different and when changing gear it seems to be a bit snappy . This only happens around town and never notice it on the motorway. Also seems to be happening around every 100 miles or so.

Do you notice anything similar or should I get it checked out?

Apart from that, it's been an excellent car.

Many thanks

Hello, Ive had exactly the same symptoms after 4000 miles and like you every 100 miles. Asked dealer to check it and they ran a diagnostic which said all was fine, they said maybe I am doing too much town or slower driving. I have been so have changed my driving style lately, keeping it at 2000 rpm or more an also driving more spiritedly and so far it has stopped being lumpy.

Try that, was suggested by one of the Fabia owners

Many thanks. I have noticed that the car does prefer higher revs so I will push it a little higher and see what happens.

Could be worth a mention to your dealer, see if they say the same as mine? Ive been trying to drive to work getting the best economy, so I guess all that slow driving in higher gears caused the issue. Up until recently Id been doing plenty of faster driving but since late October Ive been mainly local when the lumpiness started.

Ill let you know if it carries on being OK driving it harder, or if the lumpiness and constant regens occur again.

Many thanks.

I will ask the dealer to check it out when it's in for a service.

Different car but still a Diesel. I actually drive round town or very short journeys in 2nd and 3rd where as in a petrol you might use 4th or even 5th. I think this keeps the Engine nice and warm, and it warms up quicker.

I also gave my car a shot of JML DPF Cleaner in a Tank full of BP's Finest Diesel (once a year treatment) and I think that has helped the DPF.

A Collegue had a similar problem with his 1.6CR, his engine would visibly shake at idle during a regen. Fuel consumption increased dramatically and his oil level increased. The dealer couldn't sort the problem and Skoda were useless intimating that DPF equiped cars should only be used for commutes of 60 miles or more.
