How many keys and how to get the blade out?

Featured Replies

Mark, an easier way would be to just get an eBay remote then get it coded to the car and give that your son, this can be done easily with VCDS.

Remove the key blade so you know which key only opens the car.

That sounds like a good option.

So I'm clear on this, what I need to do is to get myself a fob from ebay (£10 ish) and then get it coded to the car. This would get us into the car but wouldn't start it.

In terms of the VCDS coding, is this something for a local independent, or do I ask nicely to someone with VCDS in the Wirral area?

Yes, open up a remote and match the part numbers for the remote (the bit the buttons and key loop is attached to) .

You may still be able to code the remote without VCDS, take a look at your manual for instructions, failing that someone local with VCDS should be able to help you out.

  • 1 month later...

Having just purchased an 08 vRS with just the one key, I need to source the spare.

I’ve read Cambjones shopping list (post # 23) and note the first point about sourcing the key from eBay. Would buying a AKK237 from Advanced Keys be a slightly safer option at the same time as buying a AKRM73? I know its a few more pound notes though...

Thanks

Paul
