Superb Wagon rear view mirrors ?

Featured Replies

My wife owns a new 2011 Superb Wagon 6 speed DSG with 2.0 TDI. When I drive the car I find the optical enhanced driver side rear view mirror a problem. It shows cars further away than they are. The mirror also seems to be two parts. The passenger side mirror is normal. Now on my Camry I find the passenger side mirror optically enhanced, but not on the driver side mirror. Maybe Skoda forgot to swap the mirrors over when they converted from Left side drive to right side drive. Here is Australia we drive on the left, which means the steering is on the right.

How have other Superb owners found the mirrors ?

Regards

Tom

Exactly the same in the UK as yours, however I don't see any problem with it.

Your Skoda is right, your Camry is wrong. You need to be aware of overtaking vehicles to your right in your blind spot - hence the widened field of vision in the driver's side mirror. You only need to be generally aware of what is happening to your left, so that doesn't need to give a deformed field of view.

Given that the Japanese drive on the left, you'd think they'd get it right. Maybe they think Aussies drive on the right....

Interesting. If I only rely on the right side mirror, then cars on my right appear further away than they are. I would expect the opposite. This means I have to check with my rear view mirror to gauge the distance otherwise I could pull out in front of car thinking its say 50 meters away, when it's maybe 5 meters away.

Cars over here in the UK have had these convex mirrors on the drivers side for around 10 years or so. Every car that I have owned since 2001 has had the convex driver side mirror, you soon adapt to it and realise what a great idea it is.

Which all sounds quite correct. If I can see it in my driver's side mirror but not in my main rear view mirror then I'm definitely not going to pull out.

I had a similar concern when I took the superb wagon for a test drive, but ordered one anyway! I picked it up 12 days ago and had a 400km drive home to Coffs Harbour. The mirror was a little disconcerting for the first few kilometers but after that I found I got used to it and was especially pleased with the way it covers the normal blind spot when another car is overtaking. On the Toyota Prado that I traded on the Superb, I had a convex stick-on mirror on the driver's side mirror, so maybe this has helped me quickly adapt to the Superb driver's side mirror.

I love the convex passenger and aspherical drivers side mirrors. I'm driving a Toyota Starlet while my Jetta is being repaired (after a p-plater rear-ended me) and I can't see anything in its flat mirrors.

Remember the drivers is quite flat up to the dotted line so you can still use it to judge distance.

Every UK car I have had (with R hand drive) has had the 2 part drivers door mirror.

Yours sounds normal to me.
