Filling up.

Featured Replies

Had my Yeti since March, brilliant vehicle, only one little niggle, when filling up it is awkward to get the filler into the tank. It usually takes a bit of twisting and swearing before fitting properly to start filling. Anyone else noticed this?

In a word... No. :-)

No.....It's very easy with my Diesel.

No I've never had that problem.

Is it just at one particular petrol station, or do you have that problem at every pump?

Are you... erm... what's the right word... "vertically challenged"?

Have you tried turning the nozzle 90 degrees and then inserting a bit further...

Never had a problem getting it in...........................

the pump nozzle that is!

Fine on our 1.2 TSi.

The opening is shaped for the pump nozzle to stop you putting diesel in, so it slides in nice and smoothly.

Perfect fit. :)

Good to see base humour rules in Sth Shrops!!

Thats what I keep telling my good lady.............

I always find it difficult, the hole seems too tight for the nozzle and it has to be firmly pushed in (diesel)

thought it was an idle moment int' box!!

No problem getting the nozzle in, but often have problems with pumps that are too sensitive detecting the back pressure and keep clicking off. (eg Tesco Oban, & various Shell stations around the North West). It can make it extremely tedious trying to fill up. On more than one occasion, I've given up and either tried another pump (to the consternation of the filling station staff), or taken my custom elsewhere. When you complain - standard response... no-one else is having a problem, must be your car. :wonder:

I assume that it's down to a wrongly set the valve on the pump?

I had that problem with my x-trail the first year I got in, was a real pain, particularly in foreign fuel stations, when you have to fill up a couple of times in a day at busy french fuel stations whilst making long journeys and then you watch the counter go up in cent's one second at a time or get cut out going any faster it drives you mad! When i got back from 3 months away there was a recall for the fuel filler cap, after this was done the problem seemed to be solved, so i guess it could be some mechanical.

I've always found it a bit of a struggle, but mine's bigger than most ;)

Thanks for your sensible answer, that's more or less what happens when I fill up, and it doesn't matter which filling station I use.

The nozzle is meant to be a tight fit to the fuel tank filler to minimise diesel foaming as a result of otherwise excessive air suction causing aeration by the fuel filling pump.

I realise that, I spent most of my working life making the stuff, what I'm trying to get across is, on any other diesel car I've owned the filling nozzle would always go into the filler up to the anti splash rubber disc, on my Yeti it only goes about half way, and frequently is quite awkward to remove, feeling as though it has jammed on something.

Yesterday I filled up for the first time since reading this thread, so I messed around a bit while at the pump. I did find that after a bit of a twist on the nozzle it clicked firmly into place (never done that before) but as you say nowhere near the anti splash rubber disk - but it felt right. Then on finishing refuelling - what a job I had to remove it. Lack of technique rather than a fault I suspect. Had visions for a few moments of having to ask for a giant chopper to cut through the hose :-))
