colour coded grill

Featured Replies

Hello,i have got a black vrs and i would like to have a colour coded radiator grill rather than the standard chrome type.Is there anywhere that sells a black replacement and how much do they cost,or is it best/cheaper to have the standard grill repainted?

I think the colour coded grills look very smart and any info would greatly appreciated.

Paint, or vinyl wrapped is you're easiest option :)

Easy peasy DIY job.

Buy some of this

Have a look here for some examples of it.

You can't buy one as such.

More or less everybody repaints the chrome one on the car.

If you DIY then you must remove the chrome before painting

this can be sanded off or some say that leaving the grille

surround soaking in some bleach for a few days will also remove the chrome

but I've not tried this so I can't say for sure.

Once stripped of chrome, a lot of people use a plastic primer then paint

in the colour required.

Alternatively if your budget allows, remove the part and take it to a bodyshop

for painting but expect to pay between £50-100 for this.

The cheapest way is to have it vinyl wrapped, you could even do this yourself if you're handy.

If you DIY wrap then expect to pay about £20 for a good quality piece of vinyl.

Having it done professionally may be as much as £50 all in.

If you ever want to return to standard then just peel it off again.

The chrome needn't be removed for wrapping.

As a final alternative there are also some aftermarket grilles available

from the likes of Superskoda. But that's the most expensive way to do it by

the time you've bought a diferent grille and then had it painted as well you'll

be nearer the £200 mark.

However. again this will allow you to keep the OE one as it is

should you ever wnt to return the car to standard.

Well I've had that exact stuff on since February and it's still fine.

The listing even states:

Our vinyl sheets are either 3M or AVERY produced and are of outdoor 5 – 7 year vinyl – the same as we would use for vehicle graphics, shop windows and facias.

Thank you for all your advice,il look in to getting it vinyl wrapped.

I dont mean to highjack the thread, but can you buy the standard chrome grill from a Skoda dealer? Im intrested in re-painting this as well (I know a body work expert :giggle: ) However I would proberbly return it to standard when/if i come to re-sell the car?

Yes but they're not cheap.

Vinyl wrap costs less than £10, won't chip as easily as paint, and if you want to take it off when you sell, simply peel it off.

going to give it a go, I want the matt black its only 3 quid.

I got a spray can of black magic paint from halfrauds to do mine.... not the cheapest way to do it but wanted to giv it a go myself..... and yes, it will be going in to be sprayed properly by a body shop

Vinyl is the way forward, Painted looks great, But the first stone chip ruins the whole look!

I took mine to bits 18 months ago and used matt black plasticote. I do 48 miles a day on motorway and its still like the day i painted it.
