need to find a yeti to replace my yeti that was written off last week by an oncoming car on the wrong side of the road

Featured Replies

hi to all

Its been a while since my last post mainly due to a new edition to the family. Isla was born in june and keeps us busy.

Unfortunately my wife karen and Isla were involved in a bad accident last week in our 110 tdi se candy white yeti. They came to a blind corner to see lady in an Audi 80 on the wrong side of the road ,tried to avoid her but as there was a big bank at her side she had nowhere to go resultig in a bad head on head smash. Fortunately all involved are ok. The audi driver has concussion and my wife a large bruise on chest from the seatbelt. The airbags all deployed which helpd and the yeti seems to be a strong car.

After much phone calls and persuasion the insurance have written of our pride and joy. I have spent evey spare minute lookig for a new used 4x4 110 se or 140. The other driver has accepted responsibility and we are waiting for the cheque from the insurance. when we receive the cheque the courtesy car is returned hence the reason we cant order new and wait 6 months. I have found a few cars with low milage but they are all a few thousand dearer tha new. I may just have to bite the bullet and pay the price. For the same money we can get a new crv but we really want another yeti. I thought someone on here may be looking to sell private or no of a 4x4 yeti for sale? I have registered with auto e bid in a hope they can help but most brokers and dealers have nothing but 2wd or petrol.

Thanks for reading and excuse my poorly written blog i am not the best with computers. If all fails we test drove an octavia scout 4x4 but my wife likes the driving height of the yeti and the height of the boot for our large newfoundland dog Halle.

Thanks again fellow snow monster lovers

Andy

Andy,

send an email to James at Allam's. He might know something.

(email is better than PM's to him)

Andy,

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Just very glad that your wife and little one are safe.

It's also reassuring to hear the car did it's job.

I agree with graham, drop James at Allams an email.

hey thanks for the fast reply.

i phoned James and he doesn't no of any available 4x4's.

Iv contacted all brokers. local dealers, sinclair skoda who i got our now extinct yeti from all to no avail. I have scored autotrader ,exchange and mart and all sites selling yetis. Found a few in our price range but all sold and apparently had several people fighting over them. yetis are like hens teeth!

There are three 4x4 diesel Yeti on ebay located at dealers.

Hi Andy

Sorry to read about your wifes collision, at least everyone was ok (if a bit bruised).

Good luck with your Yeti hunt.

I was in Parks Skoda Hamilton about two weeks ago to pick up steel wheels, they had two new Yeti's in the showroom one of which I'm sure was 4x4, they also had a used white one although I have no idea what it was. Maybe worth a call if yoy've not tried already.

Hi,

very sad to hear about the accident but very happy to hear your family (& other driver) OK.

Noticed the Gillingham dealer has an Elegance 110 4x4 for a reasonable second hand price; My link

Harrogate dealer also has some 4x4 deisels advertised; just under list one being an SE Plus 110 4x4 My link

Hope you get sorted,

TP

Sorry to hear of you accident, glad everyone ok. There are a few Yetis on Autotrader,in Scotland, depends on how new you require.....

I have spent evey spare minute lookig for a new used 4x4 110 se or 140.

These people have a steady supply of used 4x4 Yetis. http://www.bramhamgarage.co.uk/ There seem to be 3 at the moment. If none of those suits you, call them and see what they may be able to get. They are good to deal with.

Rotten news but glad your family are OK-puts the loss of any car in perspective.

The insurers are bound to put you back in the position you would have been but for their driver's action.

So what they must pay is the cost of an equivalent replacement-if that is more than the theoretical book value it is their problem.

Preserve and send to them details of each and every possible replacement you have found. Be prepared to negotiate so if your replacement is younger or lower mileage or a higher spec you may have to pay something BUT if you find a genuinely comparable vehicle its' price is your loss not some lesser sum.

Andy,

my apologies, but I did mean to say that I am glad that the family got away with relatively minor injuries. i hope they both weren't too shocked.

Hi Andy, I'm glad you and the young 'uk are ok. :)

I will ask Sparshat's in Fareham (near Portsmouth) for you as that's where we bought ours.

I will also ask our local dealer West Sussex Skoda.

If I DO fine one, is this part of the country too far for you to travel to??

Thank you all for your replies and such kind words!

Sorry for the delayed reply i have had a day off from hammering nails looking after isla whilst my wife works as a dog groomer so had my hands full.

Thanks for all the suggestions of cars. Plumber that moscovado 110 elegance is perfect just over my budget but should manage to stretch to it as its well priced if its available. Most that i found on autotrader are sold or overpriced .Got offered a new 140 se dsg for 21 795 which was a great price just not sure want a dsg and the road tax and insurance is more and bit to far to stretch. Had to pay a guy to remove our new towbar before the car was taken away. glad we managed to get it written off as didnt want it back. Ended up negotionating £350 more than we paid for it as we got it before the price increase.

Will keep searching and phone about the elegance you found plumber. My hands are tied for 2 days as i registered with auto e bid who take credit card details and its a reverse auction to meet a target price and they take commission if target is achieved . A bit sceptical but nothing to lose .

it seems the whole supply and demand thing is helping to keep the prices up thanks again great forum and members!

Your insurance should cover the entire cost to allow a new one to be ordered.

Question is of either a wait and where they will cover the cost of a car until delivery, or they payout invoice/book value at time of purchase and you have to do the leg work.

Might be worth this being moved or asked in the insurance forum.

Have you thought about going for a brand new Yeti, and just buying a cheap £500 runabout to 'tide you over' until the new delivery????

That was my idea to buy a cheap run around but my wife said she wouldnt feel safe in an old car after the accident as she sadid the yeti and its arrayb of airbags made her feel safe.

Got offered a brand new 170 elegance in steel grey mid jan for 21700! Then i was told by my wife and my dad that by the time i had put snow tyres on an old run around for the bad winter up here and the money i would lose selling it on id be wasting my time .

Who am i to argue. I have thought of getting a 1.8 tsi 4x4 but wasnt sure about re - sale value, torque for pulling my caravan or mpg. Certainly plenty of petrols around. I still havent come across a genuine pic of the nw colours on a real yeti i.e petrol blue .

Better gt to work my slow typing has made me late !

You've not looked hard enough then!

Good luck with your search for a Yeti. Glad everyone was fine after the smash. That is exactly why we all want a five star NCAP rated car.

Trying to call you Andy! Have a Yeti 4x4 TDi.

Hope I can get through before it goes!!!

Is it any easier finding an Octavia Scout? May also meet your needs and be a bit cheaper to fit into your budget.

and with a young child the boot will be much better suited to all the parphenalia you need to carry. I can only just cope with the smaller boot now that we no longer have to take a buggy etc with us. Before that the Octavia estate never seemed to have a big enough boot!!

Progress report.... I have ordered the 110 4x4 demo that plumber found so problem solved!

I just need to find a reasonably priced transporter to take it the 600 miles up here. Either that or i take a saturday off work and fly to london then get to kent drive up the road and get a hotel on the way. Either way i cant wait to get our new yeti. We have kept the dog guard from our last yeti. Does anyone no if it will re fit or does the car need drilled and threaded at factory ? Thanks again for the help

We can offer you a night's accommodation here (Carlisle) which will be about right distance wise. PM me or email me john at rayworth dot net if interested (using the proper email address notation of course). Could compare Yetis !!!
