Fixed price Service Plan?

Featured Replies

I just popped in to my local dealer to pick up a spare part and while talking to the service manager he mentioned the fixed price service plan. For a fixed price of £299 I would get two annual services and two MOT tests. The MOT tests would come with test protection insurance to repair or replace certain parts should the car fail.

What is the general opinion of this service plan? I am thinking that my local indi would charge me £100.00 for a service and £50.00 for an MOT so this would be the same price over two years. I would hope that my car would pass its next two MOT's first time so therefore is it better for a Skoda mechanic to MOT and service the car and continue with my full Skoda service history or for the same price let my local indi do the MOT and service to the same if not higher standard but lose my full Skoda service history?

Any opinions either way?

Sounds like a good deal although I would want to know what "certain parts" relates to.

Even a 3 year old car is not guaranteed to pass an mot these days.

I had a look at this and its for fixed basic servicing so every 10k miles. I do 18k a year so variable suits me.

£50 for an MOT - where do you take your cars?!

I pay £30 and thought that was expensive....

Defo £50+ at stealers!

Cost me £50 at local Indy for wife's Merc as well, I think this is the MoT recommended charge or thereabouts but centres are free to discount this. At a good hour to do a thorough MoT I feel that at £30 they may be looking to get some additional work out of it.

its just an Mot centre so don't do extra work. Similarly the council is £35 for an Mot.

I' get indy prices and go back to dealers & haggle . Most times they're short of work and will negotiate .

I have used the council in the past and I agree this can be a very good option.

Anyway, we digress, I still think it sound like a decent deal depending on what repairs are insured against.

I phoned the service manager about what parts are covered on the MOT protection and it seems to cover quite a lot. I tried writing them all down but he was reeling them off far too fast for me to keep up. In the end I decided to purchase a service plan and will be booking her in for her 1st service and MOT in February next year. Probably not the best time of year to be parting with £300 but at least I now won't have to pay for an MOT and service until 2014!
