Thanks bluevrs2

Changed my siren yesterday. Followed your instructions and had no problems at all.

Just to share my experience..my car (06 octavia) alarm was randomly going off on the middle of night. No matter what i tried i couldnt lock the car without the alarm arming itself. incidentally, my sypmtons were clicking/loud ticking noises from top of front drivers wheel arch whenever i armed the alarm, and it go the point where the alarm would go off as soon as i locked the car/set the alarm. So what did i do? I simply had my siren removed.cost me£20, took 20-30mins.its located front drivers wheel arch.problem solved.obviously i have no siren if someone breaks into my car, but thats not an issue for me on my 237k '06 octavia taxi. Car still locks/unlocks with key fob.alarm still sets un unsets exactly as before with fob, (indicaters flash and door led flash-confirm alarm set) still acts as a deterent, but my alarm no longer goes off intimentally, and i know this because my hazards arent flashing when i come back to my car, so i guess the siren was at fault.i could get a new siren but im not going to bother.hope this helps.yes my insurance could be void blah blah.my cars only worth pennies.

Looks like my alarm siren hasn't been working since i bought the car a few months ago.

Lights still flash, but no noise.

This was confirmed when I activated chirps with Carista, and still no sound

Managed to buy a later revision siren 1K0951605D off ebay for £20

Will fit it this week following blueR36's guide

My neighbours Octavia has the chirp on unlock and twin chirp on lock. I wish his siren would pack-in too, I've never known anyone lock and unlock their car so much  :D

In all seriousness the clunk of the locks engaging and the flash of the indicators is all the confirmation I need that my car is locked.

Yes, I know what your saying fella

Doubt I'll have the chirps set to on when I get the new siren fitted, but it was just to confirm my sirens batteries were flat

Its a good point, at least the chirps give you an instant audible warning that the siren is working.

For all I know my siren no longer works and I'm none the wiser, at least until my car gets broken into.

i have just discovered that my siren is not working my car was damaged in summer someone climbed on the bonnet and put my windscreen through.. well they tried it again the other night and have buckled my bonnet it wasnt until this morning that i realised ive never ever heard the alarm sound so i checked the fuse !! not even a fuse in there now my lights flash when the alarm is activated but no audible warning ill be buying a new horn unit asap thing is im still not convinced that this will sound if someone climbs on my bonnet again. would a microwave sensor be something i can get to run alongside the factory unit..

many thanks

Have you heard the alarm activate before, i.e. you know there is definitely one fitted? Seems strange the fuse would be missing.

Be aware that the diagram on the inside of the fuse box is renowned for it's inaccuracies.

The indicators flashing is a sign the car is locked, not necessarily that the alarm is on. This is what the red LED on the drivers door card is for.

The bonnet is included in the alarms monitoring, but only if opened. I'm not sure someone jumping on the bonnet would be enough to activate the alarm.

There must be some sort of tilt sensor on the car somewhere (i.e. if someone tries to tow the car away), these tend to be the ones that activate car alarms on car ferries.
