Mk1 vRS brake vibration

Featured Replies

I have an issue with my brakes!

I started to get some vibration under braking from motorway speeds,I could feel through the brake pedal,

A local mechanic diagnosed warped front discs,so I replaced with mintex discs and pads,I still had trouble

so I searched forums made phone calls and I was advised to change wheel hubs and bearings,I replaced with

genuine items,I still had trouble so I gave up and decided to live with it,until vibration got worse and

now I have vibration through the brake pedal and the steering wheel shakes,I have changed tyres, had wheels

aligned,checked Anti roll bar bushes,Ball joints,Wishbone bushes,Shocks,I must be missing something,Any advice

greatly appreciated......Steve

First of all, you might want to look at the fitment of those new hubs with a DTI guage.

When you've done that, you'll need to inspect the thickness of the new discs, and check that they are the same thickness all the way round.

If the problem was with the hubs previously, it may have damaged the discs that you fitted, and you will still need new discs.

Potentially you could even have a caliper issue, but if you still suspect balancing is the issue, and you're sure you've checked everything, it might be worth having the discs balanced and turned on the car. That way they are perfectly matched to the hubs and runout is turned down too, as fitted to the car, rather than having all the discrepancies creep in upon fitment.

It's not too expensive and relatively quick to setup, and there are a few more garages offering it these days.

Have you checked your wheels to make sure there not buckled or out of shape,

Try swopping wheels front to rear see if it improves things

Thanks,I'll look into having the discs balanced,It could also be possible I got a bad set of discs

I initially thought it was a buckled wheel or square tyre so I borrowed a set of wheels from a friend, same symptoms occured

You'll need to check the runout first, and if like I said, it was previously hub issues and you've used the current discs for any length of time on the old hubs, you will need to get it done on the car rather than on a benchtop balancer. I've got some info on who does this somewhere at work...
