Skoda service schedule

Featured Replies

Went out in the car last night for run about, went nice and steady due the fact the temp was getting low and i was purely enjoying a nice drive. Looked at the average MPG, which iv mentioned before i know and shock horror once again struggling to get 40mpg.

So was discussing it with a friend last night and he mentioned the air mass meter and the air filter. My car has done 56k now (bought it on 53,000 about 2 month ago) so i assured him where as the air mass meter ill look into i was almost certain it would of seen a new filter at some point..apparently not!

Its has FSSH so i flicked through the book to see when it was last changed, according to Skoda it needs to be changed at 90,000km/ 6years which 55,000 miles so as of yet it has not being changed, needless to say i was overly shock at the fact they predict and air filter can last so long, i change mine every 12,000 miles.

Surly this cannot be right? it will trying to suck air through a fruit cake!

p.s as of yet i have not checked the filter as i was not about to do it at half 11 last night and this morning is very cold and i cannot remove myself from the heater :D

Just read abit further into the service book and it turns out it will still have the original fuel filter aswell..all this gets dont at 12,000 miles in my books! mine to get my hands dirty me thinks!

Crazy it has not been changed yet, Soooo much easier on a Tdi than a TFSI, they are a bugger to get the cover off

I agree the intervals are crazy and far too long, personally I change mine every service.

Have you actually manually checked your MPG?

Too many people trust the on-board computer.

Brim the tank, reset the trip meter run it til just before the red and refill.

Note the mileage, number of liters used and pence/litre.

Then add the numbers into this calculator:

As I've mentioned before my identical vRS averages at 53mpg on my commute to work. From a cold start it begins at 26ish and creeps up into the 50's as the engine warms and my speeds settle.

To be getting only 40's I'd do a manual test to be 100% sure it is actually that low before spending any money.

Silver's point above is correct, but you will not know your true MPG until the next tankful used (as you need a constant starting point - ie a FULL tank of fuel) I personally wait for the pump to click off, wait a couple of seconds (for any excess air in the tank to escape) and repeat twice more - so it has clicked off 3 times in total this ensure I have as near as damn it the exact amount in the tank each time which will make the figures more accurate.

Even so I would change the air filter as a matter of course first - they cannot do the recommended mileages between changes without having an effect on MPG.

For an easier way of working it out sign up to fuelly (see my sig below v v) it's free, quick and does all the calculations for you

about changing the fuel filter, is it as simple as undo all the bolts on top, take out old put in new?

Basically yes, there is also a large O ring that needs to be replaced as well as the filter.

Im guessing a new one comes with the filter

Genuine ones do yes, not sure about others but they should.

Just be very careful when levering the top off the housing, don't bend the top or it won't seal properly.

But yes on a TDi fuel and air filters are 60k in this country.
