Superb Greenline Estate

Featured Replies

I am intending to buy a Superb Greenline Estate, any advice or comments on this car would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation

Can't comment on the Greenline version but can definately recommend the Estate.

Am 5 days into ownership of a 2.0 TDi Estate and it's great - having come from an Octavia, via a short stint in an Audi A4, the build quality is simply higher.

Some brief plus points that I like:

  • comfortable seats (especially as they are heated!)
  • the amount of space - both legroom front and back plus boot size
  • the fact the load cover stops halfway
  • effortless engine responsiveness
  • the simple touches - A pillar ticket holder, sunglasses holder, ambient interior lighting
  • excellent radio/stereo system (Bolero)
  • dashboard design/layout
  • imposing size of the Superb

Mine is in SE spec and is better appointed that my old A4 SE which was c£28k !!

What spec level are you considering? Is it company car purchase or private?

Morning

Well, I can only comment off the back of 15 hours and counting ownership.

I have the Greenline II estate in Elegance spec, Amethyst Purple

I can only add to Coops response with my experience of the engine. I have just handed back a Volvo S60 D5 and whilst the 1.6 is not going to break any land speed records it is more than ample enough for the UK road system and mixed city/motorway driving I do.

The Columbus sat nav is amazing and I no longer need wires trailing everywhere, once I get the set up right and get used to it I can't see me ever needing the Tom Tom again.

For me as a company car driver the company car tax is so low compared to anything else I could get in my bracket except the BMW 320 efficient dynamics but not for me.

I am sure the list will grow as ownership goes on. I don't see many people regretting their decision.

On a thread I started I am going to post some pics later when it brightens up.

If you want to ask anything specific, give me a shout, this forum has been great since I joined and it would be great to help others out.

Thank you for your response Coops. I am looking at the Elegance and it will be a private purchase. I currently drive a Nissan Juke which is on a PCP so it may be a little while before I am free to place an order. I believe that generally there is a wait of about 30 weeks for delivery from time of order, what was your experience of delivery times?

Thanks for your response, it certainly looks a well put together car with all the features that I like. My wife quite likes the Amethyst but also fancies the Malachite green and the dark brown (I can't remember what the shade is called)

Delivery times are slightly difficult for me to track as it was ordered through a leasing company so there was no definitive way of me checking the "actual" order point.

However, roughly speaking the timelines were:

  • 11th May - received notification from lease company that I was able to order
  • 15th May - completed order online with lease company
  • 18th May - quotation received back from lease company
  • 19th May - quotation confirmed back to lease company (by me)
  • 13th July - Supplying dealer had to resubmit some minor details and order date was then changed
  • 19th August - Supplying dealer not been advised of build date
  • 20th August - "Coops" kicks off with lease company over lack of info/build date
  • 26th August - Skoda confirmed to dealer build date of w/c 24th October, with delivery 2nd or 3rd week in November
  • 31st October - Dealer confirms that vehicle is built and is in transit to UK
  • 14th November - Dealer confirms receipt of vehicle and arranges delviery
  • 17th November - CAR DELIVERED
  • 18th November - "Coops" is a happy man B)

I suspect the actual order with the dealer was originally placed somewhere around mid May to June but then the details had to be re-submitted around 13th July. So if say 1st June was the order date then it was approx 24/25 weeks for delivery.

Thank you Coops, I like the way you logged the diary of events. A man after my own heart!

I took delivery of my Greenline Estate in Amethyst Purple on 11th Nov.

I ordered it privately through Autoebid off t'internet at a saving of about £4000 from list/dealer price. It was actually supplied by a company in Chesterfield.

It was ordered on 29th April so about 6 1/2 months from order to delivery.

I ordered the Elegance version with a few extras - auto dimming rear mirror, side airbags, wood decor and the expensive toy of park assist as well as the metallic paint.

My reason being I am 47 and having worked in the NHS for years I wanted something nice! It is also quite satisfying being the only consultant with a Skoda! Why pay £15000 extra for something essentially the same but with an Audi badge?

I chose Skoda because of value for money and owner satisfaction/reliability. Our local ambulance service use a lot of Skodas for precisely the same reasons.

After 12 days ........ I love it!

It is the best car I have ever had - previously a Renault fan but I wouldn't go back.

The leg room in the back is vast. I am 6'2" and don't have the seat fully back when driving - as I have always had to do with every other car I have ever driven.

I have found everything pretty easy to set up. The Columbus has (touch wood) worked perfectly so far.

My only niggle was regarding the digital speed display in km/h which I am now used to. I usually have the display set to mpg or something else entirely anyway so thats not really an issue.

So far I seem to be hitting 55mpg overall (mostly urban) compared to at least 10mpg less in the old Scenic. Out on the motorway or out of town the mpg reported by the computer is into the 70s. I am doing a longer journey at the weekend so am very interested to see what that will be like.

I think it's a great car. I went for the estate as I have a dog and will need something suitable to ferry daughter off to university next year - all being well.

I know some say the Greenline is under-powered but I haven't had a problem with power. It will do 70 on the motorway with ease though I do sometimes forget there aren't 6 gears.

To me - mpg, environmental issues and £35 road tax matters more than speed and trying to burn some chav off at the lights.

I would recommend getting a spare wheel kit from your dealer though (not available as a factory option). It only cost about £130 and I was surprised to find that included a tyre on the wheel - I was fully expecting to have to buy a tyre on top of that.

Love it!

Totally agree with you.

I've been wondering why there are only 5 gears, even though VW Passat Bluemotion delivers the similar horsepower & torque measures, and almost the similar CO2 emissions with 6 gears :o

Have they purchased some "left-over" gear boxes from VW? ;)

Thanks DH, I've got two Labradors which is the main reason for wanting a change from the Juke. I previously had a Nissan X Trail but as one of the dogs has arthritis it was too high for him to jump in and out of. The loading level of the Superb is ideal for access. I am a bit disappointed that it only has a five speed gearbox, I was under the impression that it was six speed may have to review my choice of spec!

The 5 speed is to cut down on weight in the Greenline or so I am led to believe.

The fuel consumption seems excellent - according to the computer 100 miles range left and done 545 since filling up - so it seems to live up to its claims of miserly diesel use.

Perhaps I was a little hasty. With that sort of consumption plus the low tax band, it's got to be good buy.

I too am waiting for my Greenline in Amethyst Purple too. As mentioned on other threads whilst in theory could have had a 140 DSG 4x4 or even stretched to a 170, just not prepared to stomach the BIK tax due to the higher emissions.

Have driven a few vehicles with 1.6 diesels and have found that the six speeders tend to be a bit fussy compared to the Skoda 5 speed. Not sure quite why, but it seemed to be a far more relaxed drive whereas in a Volvo DrivE for example seemed to be forever shifting gear, plus needing to rev. Caught out in the wrong gear far more often than the Skoda, which seems counter intuitive somewhat.

I found the same when I had 6 speed Passat 1.6 TDi Estate for a 24 hour test drive. Whilst the quality of the gear shift, as well as the shape of the gear knob promotes frequent shifts; after a while, the novelty wears off. In contrast, the 5 speed Superb Greenline is more relaxing to drive, although, this engine still requires more gear changing than my old remapped Superb 1.9 TDi.

After 3,300 miles in a month I am averaging the low 60's, which should improve in time.

The 1.6 TDi is fast enough for everyday usage with one occupant, however, for loads or more occupants, the 2.0 TDi would be a better choice.

From a company car point of view, the Superb Greenline makes perfect sense.

I think that I will stick with my original choice, I have not seen or heard anything detrimental about the car. My only regret is that I have to wait so long before I can order one, given a choice I would be at the dealer today!

I ordered (via leasing company) in mid July and was told to expect delivery first in December 2011, then January 2012; then in October the leasing company advised my car was ready to be delivered and arrived on 20th October.
