Check Tires message

Featured Replies

Today I went to a local garage to change my summer tires with the Nexens.

Please continue to the next paragraph if you are not interested in some details, I just have to inform about the service I got. So, when I presented the new tires, I was first charged the double price, 100 Euros instead of the normal 58 Euro, the guy who passed my order looked as he was doing me a favor cos I hadn't bought the tires from them, and to make it better, in the end, they just put the tires in the boot without even a plastic bag to keep it clean! :punch: Very unprofessional in total, avoid it if you live in France, the garage was a "Roady" one.

So... after the change, and after driving for around 2KM, the "Check Tire/Pressure" yellow signal came on. Off I went to a gas station to find that the front ones seemed ok at 2.5 bar but the rear ones were around 2.6 bar instead of the recommended 2.4 (for standard load) written on the fuel cap. I deflated them a little so they were back to 2.4 and started the engine. Still... the "Check Tires Please" notification on the maxidot and the yellow signal were there. I re-checked the pressures and they seemed fine.

My question is, do I reset the Tires Pressure Monitor function from the appropriate button, or is it still something wrong with the tires? In generally, after such a notification comes on, does it go off when the problem is corrected or does it need to be manually reset?

Thanks...

As far as I understand, the Tyre Pressure Monitoring system uses the ABS system to monitor the wheels rotation rate. This relies on having tyres of a certain size. Although some tyres are nominally allowed for a Fabia (e.g. 165/70R14), they won't work with the Tyre Pressure Monitoring system. A shame as that's what I had in mind for my winter wheels.

See the following document for the wheel and tyre sizes allowable - at least in Germany:

Let me know if you need help with the German.

Tim

Manual reset.

Push and hold down the button to set the system so it "learns" the new pressures.

I had to do the same after getting ATS to fit my winter tyres.

Despite having 38psi on the fuel flap they put 33psi in all of them. :dull:

Note, my winter tyres are the same size as my summer ones.

No problems since!

Hi as you've put winter tires on you need to reset system maxi- dot to winter tires, as the tires are different width and height I think so you need to set to winter tires

Can't see how they have to be a certain size, providing there all the same size and pressures correct it shouldn't make a difference how big/small the wheels/tyres are

The maxidot winter tyres setting is just for setting a speed warning. Usefull only if you have fitted low speed rated tyres and intend to blast down the autobahn.

They dont have to be a certain size.

You fit 4 tyres and check the pressure manually, when your happy you set the system and then it monitors for changes in sudden changes of rotational speed on individual wheels.

Any new tyres winter or summer you should reset the system.

Thanks everybody for the answers, this forum is pure gold. I just posted and sat down to have dinner and when I came back 8 replies already!

So, I should have stated in my first post that I fitted tires of the exact same size as the OEMs (Nexen Winguard Sport 205/40/17 84V). I suspected it might just need manual reset but wanted to double check...

But I am wondering, If the tires had been inflated with the exact same pressures as the ones that came off could the system be able to detect them? I guess no, but since there was a 0.2bar difference between that, that would proabably be enough to trigger an alert...

Did the fitters "surrender"? B)

but since there was a 0.2bar difference between that, that would proabably be enough to trigger an alert...

0.2 bar + difference in manufacturers spec to exact diameter + difference in tread depth + tyre wall deflection to load.

Cheers

Lee

I too had to reset after fitting the winter tyres, so no worries there.

Does anybody know the correct tyre pressure for 195/55/R15 winter tyres..>?
