Insurance Fraud

Featured Replies

My fault for buying a car from Blackburn, I suppose.

I 'bought' a car, paid the deposit but the trader couldn't tax it as previous owner was registered disabled. He siad needed insurance docs from us and then would need to go to the DVLA in person.

So we bought a policy, pestered the ins. company to send out the docs, ended up with faxed docs after waiting days, posted these to the trader who got the tax and I paid the balance and picked up the car about 12 days after the deposit was paid, 10 days after ins was taken out.

All sweet, except today my wife recieves a letter saying that follwoing investigations they have decided her policy is invalid and this material fact of a cancelled policy must be declared to all insurance companies.

Apparently there have been multiple policies taken out against this car. Obviously its not us as I would realise if I had paid out over £700 several times. The trader who had the car for 10 days after we insured it but didn't own it obviously denies everything and I don't intend wasting my time going to BB again.

So we are now trying to sort out with the insurance company (MORE THAN, who have been a PITA all along) so that we can keep the insurance and have the black mark taken off our record.

Anyone had any luck sorting this out in the past?

Good luck!

I'm being a bit dim here, but how does taking out multiple insurance policies on a car benefit anyone, except the insurance company?

Have there been multiple claims? If you have the reg documents and your details are in the system, why are you being penalised?

This is what we wondered as well. Fingers crossed but it should be sorted now. They are giving us yet another policy number and seeing what happens.

I've not heard of it before either but MORE THAN DON't seem to know arse from elbow, they keep contradicting themselves on a couple of other issues.

Sounds very strange. If you get any coherent answers let us know

Maybe the car been clone so the real one is being driven by the real owner who has policy on his car

In which case the records will be held at the motor insurance bureau database and they will be able to tell what policies are/have been held on the car in question.

Did you HPI check the car before buying and cross check the MoT's and all the chassis numbers on the car?

If so, you are unlikely to have bought a dodgy car, but the trader may have had a couple of other interested buyers who put deposits down and arranged insurance and then backed out of the deal.

Get an AA check done on the car for peace of mind once you get the insurance bit sorted out.

I doubt if there are any more dodgy dealings going on in Blackburn than anywhere else, other than crash for cash claims which it seems to be the world epicentre of.
