Glovebox?

Not that its gonna help you find the bulb out but the bulb out light kept appearing on my missus leon and there wasnt a bulb out at all!

Best way for you to know is check on VCDS (Vag-Com) and will tell you the bulb. Was the drivers spot on the leon that was saying was out so i disabled the front spots warning so doesnt check them and job done. Hope this helps.

Could be an incorrect bulb size fitted, some people on here have experienced this same problem when using 5 watt tail bulbs (or 20w5 twin filament) instead of 4 watt (20w4) which is the recommended but less common size.

Try a search on "bulb out warning" as I remember seeing plenty of posts in the past.

Nothings changed since I replaced a bulb (rear light) over 8 months ago. It just appeared randomly... Ill have to try and get a diag tool on it some time!

I've got the same following an emergency stop on the M62 back in August - bulb out light on the dash but no message in maxi-dot and all bulbs working fine. I've even tried replacing most of the bulbs with new ones. My only thought is as mentioned above whether one of the bulbs is a different rating which is upsetting things - I just havent; had the time to take them all out and check...

Check the hi vis brake light in the back window. I had this on a 5 series and it showed as a rear right hand bulb failure. Took me 3-4 days to suss it. My dad who I passed it on to has just asked me the same question to which I smuglly replied. :-)

ha ha.......

warning light has been annoying me for a week and I was certain all bulbs were OK, then I read this and realised i hadn't checked number plate lights.

BINGO !

off to Halfrauds at lunchtime

As above, the Octavia is quite unique in that the tail lights are 4W and not the much more common 5W.

If a 5W has been used it may/may not result in random bulb-out warnings.

Brake/Tail - 21W/4W

Fog/Tail - 21W/4W

Tail x2 - W3W

Another common problem is a lot of people do not realise the Octavia has four seperate tail/night lights on each side. It's only when you step back a good distance from the car can you tell that one has blown.

so, of to halfords, new bulb, replace,..... nothing

terminals look a bit corroded, shine'em up - nothing

detach bulb-holder and lo and behold, the connections are rusted to b***ery and one of the pins is so corroded it has broken off and stuck in the connector. A quick wizz round brskoda suggests this has been happening since 2006 at least.

Well, the car is less than 2 years old, what's the odds on getting it done under warranty ?

I'm not sure you can even use a 5w in that position as the 4w has an unusual asymmetrical bayonet pattern, i.e. they don't sit opposite each other.

Correct, the fitting is different, unfortuantly a 5W bulb can easily and often is forced to fit...

100% likely if it's done less than 60,000 miles.

A rusty electrical connector is not normal wear and tear on a two year old car. As you say it's a common fault and Skoda know about it.

A definate warranty job

Hate to say this but I'm pretty certain that the rear lights on an estate are not twin filament - they are single filament bulbs that CanBus varies the supply to to make them brighter???

I believe this is the case on newer models, a change was made from twin to single filament bulbs but I didn't realise the estate was always single filament?

I have both an estate and hatchback but only ever changed a bulb on the hatch...

called in at the dealer this morning - only one light has gone, but i've managed to sweet talk them into doing both of them next week :-)

How many reverse lights should I have? Is it just the one, or two?

Mine keeps telling me my right brake light is out, changed it a few times until I got someone to press the brake peddle for me. Light works yet tells me its out. No doubt will get it looked at when serviced.

Normally does it after heavy braking or very cold weather.

Have you checked the third high level LED brake light in the top of the rear window?

I understand if this fails it is reported in Maxidot as one of either the left or right normal brake lights.
