Using third party vag com cables.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

this is my first post on this forum so please bear with me regarding my English ;-)

I have a Skoda Octavia II model 2005.

I have been running xenon lights on the car for about 3 years with no problems. Having said that i want to enable the xenon function on the car so that i can connect them through a relay because i am going to upgrade to 55w xenon's and projector lights.

I need to buy an VAG COM cable that supports the can bus system and I also need some kind of software to do this.

also if someone could "show" me how this is done that would be great :-)

I live in Iceland and there is no one here that has Ross-tech cables and i think that spending around 300usd for this is quite high.

I hope that i have made myself understandable and that som one can help me.

FYI, Aftermarket xenon are LEGAL here so please don't tell me that it is illegal to use them ;-)

Kind regards from Iceland,

Sveinn

If you want VAG com, then you'll have to buy a legit cable.

If no one around you has one, then you could make the money back quite easily as it'd cover most VAG cars.

Can i use any other cables or software than VAG-COM?

As i said earlier i only need to turn on the xenon option.

Greetings to Iceland.

Maybe it would be cheaper to find a local VAG-COM user and pay them to turn on your Xenons?

Just an idea...

Why not go to a VW dealer? Cant cost more then 50 euro for 5 min job?

As said by previous folks, you need a genuine VAGCOM/VCDS cable and software, the cheaper versions DO NOT WORK. The other cheaper option for you is to ask your dealer to do the coding for you with their machine.

Eins og sagði við fyrri fólkinu, þú þarft ekta VAGCOM / VCDS snúru og hugbúnað, gera ódýrari útgáfur virka ekki. Önnur ódýrari kosturinn fyrir þig er að biðja söluaðila til að gera erfðaskrá fyrir þig með vél sína.

I hope this helps :) emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Not true they do work (or atleast some do)but obviously it would be ethical to buy from Ross-tech as they made the original.

No they don't work. If you buy a cheap knock off it will come with an old hacked version of the software that you won't be able to upgrade. The reason you pay extra for the genuine RossTec VCDS is for the support and the continued development of the software - neither of which you'll get with a knock off.

But they DO work you just can't upgrade them. I've got lots of friends with the clone, the point I'm making is when people say they don't work it's simply not true.

Hi,

I was refering to the ross tech cables....There are a few options of them and i was askinf if i can use the cheapest one to turn on the xenon options or do i need to buy the most expensive one?

The genuine Ross-Tech Micro-CAN interface will work perfectly on any CAN based VAG car (like the MKII Octavia) but it will not work on non CAN based cars, for that you need the HEX+CAN interface, this will work on both CAN and non CAN based cars, so is more versatile
