VAG 15" 6J steel Wheels Centre Caps to fit

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Been reading many threads on here about centre caps and steel wheels. I have a set of VAG 15" 6J steel that I bought with winter tyres from a very good member on here and want to try get some caps to fit them.

post-32928-0-76182100-1322044804_thumb.jpg

I already have some spare OEM Skoda alloy wheel centre caps that I want to retro fit in to some centre caps.

(Also have some spare individual bolt covers but will be no good as need centre cap of some sort)

From reading threads on here, I gathered part number 2K0 601 169 will fit? Was going to buy some but was told "this part is from VW Caddy 5x112 mm on studs. Fabia is 5x100 so I don’t think they will fit"

Can anyone advise on what I should get?

Thanks.

Not seen them before. What they from? Any idea what size they are? Are they 5x100?

Try your dealer or TPS,

P/N starts 6Y0

And all 6Y Fabias are 5x100.

They're listed as centre caps for 13" steel wheels, But as all Fabia steelies are 5x100 it would follow that the centre portion of the wheels are all going to be of a similar diameter!

Cheers mate.

Skodaparts.com are kindly ordering one in for them to look at and check out to see if it is any good. Will let you know how I get on!

I thought that someone had done this by using VW Caddy plastic covers that cover the complete centre section that includes the nuts, then buy some Skoda wheel sticky badges to convert from VW to Skoda. Maybe check in the "tyres" forum if you can't find what you need on this one. Also, I believe that while a small centre disc would work on the front wheels, there is not enough clearance to allow their use on the rear wheels - but all of that is based on info gleaned from Briskoda.

I've seen the transporter centre caps been made to fit the steelies

Yes seen that. As I said the caddy caps are 5x112 so will fall off as the fabia is 5x110.

Are you sure about that - Caddy = Polo = 100 X 5 Transporter = Passat = 112 X 5

Edit, well older Caddy at least.

Older Caddy's are based around the 6N Polo platform, So are 4x100

Current ones are based on the Touran/Golf V, VI platform so 5x112

+1 with Mike - that is what Skodaparts.com have said and I would think (hope) they know!

Ok so got the caps - they look like they fit perfectly and they do but they don't grab the bolts properly and will fall off as soon as I move :(

Pics attached for comment....

Hmmm, Does anyone know how the alloy bolts differ from steel wheel bolts, Could that be the problem?

Apart from the mounting issues, They look alright!

Black would be better though!

Yeah pondering spraying them black.

I thought the bolts are the same for both types of wheel? Or are they different?

They are perfect if I can get them to fit and stay on B)

Alloy and steel wheels bolts are the same, I wonder if its due to it being made for a wheel with different "dishing" - I'd check that it looks like the PCD is okay - ie check that a circle described that passes through the centre of the 3 (or the 5) bolt positions is 100mm in diameter. Maybe use a divider or something set at 50mm and place the centre in the centre of the inside of the plastic cover - it should contact the 3-off gripper points in their centres.

Hi there,

I will give that a go - I 'think' I get it. :S ;)

Looking again at your picture of the wheels that you have, these wheels were designed so that the (full) wheel trims were retained by lugs passing through the 6-off smaller "squarish" holes round the wheel and not at or only at the outer rim. VAG seem to have tried a few different ways of retaining full wheel covers on steel wheels, the cover (Golf) ones that I bought for my winter steels (14") were made to fit round the bolt heads and th eouter rim - and seeing that that version of Golf had the larger PCD, I ended up cutting that centre bit off and just using the "old school" method of using the outer rim. I'm mentioning this as it could be that you will never end up finding a small centre wheel cover that will fit that wheel - so end up needing to buy some Skoda 15" full wheel trims that meet with your "look" - but if from Octavia you might need to chop out the centre bits that were meant to grip the Octavia wheel bolt heads.

You might be right. I have tried looking at the caps again tonight and can't see anyway to get them to fit as they just sit on the bolts rather than grip them. Got a couple of spare bolts so I could have a play but they just sit in and are not even tight. Unless there is a special way to use the clips that I am missing?

Any other thoughts before I try to send them back? (Or end up with them gathering dust in the garage)

Looks like its a no go then..... :(

Yes, well if the Fabia wheel bolts by themselves don't give you the impression that they are getting "gripped" then you are really on a loser. Onwards and upwards, maybe time to see if there are any Octavia full covers that look okay, and then chop them up where needed so that they can fit.

Might just leave them as is as I think full trims will look a bit pants. Got some bolt covers at least to put on so better than nowt

Have fitted the bolt covers. Disappointed I couldn't get any center caps to fit though.

The centre caps from your alloy wheels will fit on the front steel wheels (assuming you have standard alloys). I've done the same on mine.
