MAF Sensor replaced and still engine mangement light comes back on ?

Featured Replies

Hi guys i thought i would make a new thread for this as it might have got lost in my diagnostics thread lol

""the engine management light which came on ---- but car run fine error on dash was ( emmisions workshop )Skoda says it was this **** was due to a MAF SENSOR GIVES SMALLS SINGAL TO ECU ***** To repair replace MAF SENSOR ** PART NUMBER 074906461B Part Price £231.19 inc fitting £351.83 ""

I replaced the MAF with an MAF i bought on EBAY !BYO927wCGk~$(KGrHgoH-C0EjlLlu15ZBKgcO0367Q~~_12.JPG

BUT THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT LIGHT WOULDNT GO OFF

SO I BOUGHT ONE OF THESE 511wAoE-OzL._SS500_.jpg Maxiscan Diagnostic Scanner CAN Code Reader OBD2 EOBD OBDII MS300

AND TURNED OF THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT LIGHT MYSELF BUT AFTER 5 MINUTES IT HAS COME BACK ON AGAIN WITH THE SAME FAULT CODE P0102

SO EITHER I REPLACED THE MAF FOR NO REASON OR I HAVE SOMETHING ELSE THATS FAULTY ?

The Book on this error says its this

The Book says this ******* P0102 MAF or VAF A Circuit Low Input

The CD says this ******* Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit - Low input or Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input

Hi,

I would do a very close check on all intake hoses to check for any possible air leaks that could be bypassing the air flow past the sensor. Also check wiring to sensor for damsage or corrosion,

Tony

Probably completely different, but will post it nevertheless.

Our Toyota Yaris came up with a fault one night, so I rang my Toyota mate and the first thing he advised me to do was to carefully clean the small sensor inside with a quality contact cleaner, which I did and the fault went away. Not sure about the Skodas, but I believe most MAFs these days use a hot wire temperature sensor to determine the air flow and over time they get covered with crud, which interferes with their ability to determine the air flow.

Worked for me ...

Hi,

Been doing a bit of checking of testing of maf sensor, check voltages at connector, you shoukd have 12volts between teminal 2 and 3,and 5 volts between terminal 4 and 3 these can be tested with the plug to maf sensor disconnected. If you dont have the 12 volts it is probably a fuse, the 5 volt supply comes from the engine ecu.

List of terminal connections;

1, Not used

2, 12 volt supply

3, Earth

4, 5 volt supply from ecu

5, output signal to ecu

Teminals are numbered from curved side of plug left to right 1 to 5.

Also check inside of all air hoses before maf sensor for any oil contamination as oil on sensor will cause fault.
