Does anyone else use Sonos for wireless music distribution?

Featured Replies

Just curious really.

I looked into it and liked the idea, its just the cost that put me off really.

It's not the cheapest solution admittedly but it just seems to be bomb proof in operation and gives excellent quality results. :-)

If I had the money, it's the one I'd pick to do it.

As it is, I've got other things that need the cash, including food, so I don't think I'll be doing it any time soon.

Rich mate has it and absolutely loves it.

Claimed it had just about every record on it and challenged me to name something it didn't have.

I won with "Lawnmover Deth - Sumo rabbit and inescapable trap of doom"

As long as you're not into early 90's comedy thrash it has just about everything else.

I too have been looking into it but again it's the cost.

I think I will go down the route of a Roku Soundbridge as I already have an iTunes server running on my NAS drive.

A girl at work asked me today if I knew anything about this, does it read music you've got stored on iTunes or similar or do you get it from Sonos's own servers (or both)?

I have a Logitech squeezebox which lets me listen to all Internet radio and all of my itune music and I like it very much. How does it differ from Sonos?

Sonos is a great albeit expensive solution,

it can stream your own music, connect to other services such as napster, and more. You can have multiple playout points and control them all from a single remote. These playout points can play in perfect sync for all round the house music, or you play different music in different places.

It can be controlled with a dedicated controller or through an app for android and maybe iPhone but not sure.

I had a play with one in currys as they had a couple set-up with a HTC desire with the app installed.

Was really impressed with it and how well it synced and the sound quality was great!

I might save up and get one or have a look on ebay.

I started off with a Roku years back and a friend has the squeezebox setup and it's really effective but ultimately the quality and flexibility of the Sonos is better. I've just finished rewiring the house for gig Ethernet today and for the first time ever im getting streaming issues! Think my above post about it being bullet proof was a jinx! Lol Sorting it out now...

What are the main differences between the Sonos and Squeezebox? To me the DAC on the Squeezebox seems to be quite good.
