Replacement wing mirror!

Featured Replies

Hi Some Bar steward hit my car this morning on the way to work and smashed my wing mirror with his, probably good job it was a small country lane that i couldnt turn round fast enough in to gigve chase and ask them to pay!

I havent had a good look as been at work but its smashed the glass (which i know you can buy seperatly) the clear indicator "glass" has gone and the indicator doesnt work. and i am guessing the main houseing is broken the mirror glass will still move and i think the heating still works, can i buy the indicator bit serpartly? can i buy like a plastic housing?or do i have to buy the whole lot? i am guessing that i like my arm and leg so dont want to go to a dealer for one, and have seen a few on ebay but they are not shown as for the face lift will they fit on mine?

Had the same thing mate, luckily my glass and cover survived, I got a complete replacement unit from eGay and just swapped my glass and painted cover then fitted the whole thing, iirc, £75 posted. Bear in mind that it is the same mirror as fitted to the VW Polo (not sure which mark, but seen them on an 03 reg) so that may help when searching.

Though according to div's profile his is a FL, so mirror will be diff from Polo and unique to the Octy (I think, it's not the same as the Touran or owt like that is it?).

Doh, fail! My bad. In that case, the OP should buy 2, and get rid of the fat FL monstrosities....... :giggle:

Correct the FL is different but not unique, it is the same as an A4 and the newer model A3 and A3 Cab.

Thanks for the replies, ill have a look around on ebay and one of the online breakers search thingys. are they hard to fit? assuming you have to take door trim off and then its just three bolts and an electrical connector or two?

Had a look this morning the top half of the mirror/casing is fine, the bottom has completly gone and the circuit board with the indicators on is snapped in half... doh!

No, its not.

Every time this comes up someone says its the same as an Audi - its not! Similar? Yes. Same? No.

Not that I've studied them, but aren't the indicator strips slightly different?

Correct. Same overall shape to an A4, A5, A3 etc, but the way the indicator is built in to the cover is different to the Skoda.

Thanks guys.

Well after having a better look around i found that the internals all work its just replacement cosmetics, new cover, new indicator (i always thought it was one unit but they are seperate!),new bit of plastic trim and a can of vrs blue pain £65 which i didnt think was that bad ... would have been better not to pay it if the knob haddnt hit my car in the first place!

The dealers wanted £45 for the mirror glass!!! so a little ebaying £11 delivered!.... just hope it fits!

anyone got a how to for getting the glass out mirror cover off?

Mirror glass is just a snap fit and can be set to extreme position to allow you to get something behind it and ease it off. Once off disconnect electrics for heating element and glass is then free. Indicator panel can be removed by removing two screws. Not sure about the cover but it should be easily accessible now. I had an electric folding mirror vandalised and it cost £230 (internal bracket cost about £154) to replace.
