Vpower diesel

Featured Replies

I thought it was roughly every 100 miles? But I've done 4k and only smelt it a handful of times, it runs sweet so I'll still use the champagne and leave the house white to the rest ;)

No idea, I was guessing just to illustrate a point.

Depends on how clean the actual engine is I'd have thought. On my GL2 it seems to be about every 3,000 miles or so. But that's only when I notice it due to slowing down and the stop-start not cutting in. It doesn't smell, just keeps tickover rpm at about 1,100.

Thanks for this...best laugh I've had for a couple of days!! :D:rofl::thumbup:

Phew Thanx estateman ;) this time I'm going to keep this fabia 1.6crtdi long term may even be the last vehicle I buy!, so logically I should be doing everything I can too keep the engine in tip top condition, hence the vpower also the lubricants I shall be using will be second too non, ah also a lot of weight shedding is going on as I type ;) in 4 weeks lost over a stone in weight, another 3 or 4 and I'll be down to about 11. 1/2 stone so a lighter car all round ;)

In my previous cars I normally used supermarket fuel. My last two cars were also diesel. I mainly used Tesco as most convenient, less often Asda and occasionally particularly if cheaper Sainsbury's.

Having bought a brand new car I made the decision to use a branded fuel. Without going far out of my way I only have the choice of Shell or BP. Shell fuelsave is normally 1p a litre more than Tesco and today £1.389 a litre with V-Power £146.9. BP are normally 1-2p a litre dearer.

At all now diesel is 9p a litre dearer than standard unleaded and V-power petrol today was also 8p a litre more so reducing the cost savings from the increased mpg of diesel by around 30%. The fact that the RFL for the diesel Fabia is currently £70 pa less so over 10 years will almost offset the higher purchase price was a major consideration in deciding to buy the diesel rather than petrol engine. Those intending to change their car sooner could end up loosing out if the 9p litre price gap continues.

I have never considered V-power as with most of my mileage is my 11 mile commute where there is little opportunity to, as Seb would say, give it some beans although it would actually be good for the engine. Also the oil only gets over 80 C as my journeys are nearly ended.

So can anyone advise how the additives in Fuelsave, rather than supermarket fuel, compare to V-power.

I run 2 fabias 1 run on the vpower and the other is run on shell fuel saver with redex chucked in 1 a month and it's a 1.4tdi and I saw and felt a difference in the car

I assume though that the 1.4TDi doesn't have a DPF.

I guess using the diesel versions of Redex etc in the 1.6CR with DPF is a recipe for a big bill ......

There are injector cleaners for diesel engines with DPF, actually it's (an optional) part of the Fiat's servicing for their 1.3 MJ with DPF.

As said above though all these products really only benefit future owners. A bit like permanently keeping a table cloth on your dining room table really.

Long term deisel will out live petrol engine by 100k and diesel is a cleaner fuel plus I will get 70mpg if I try what will the fuel of Satan get maybe 50 if your lucky

Obviously there are many factors that will affect this. I'd argue that it's likely cheaper to buy a new car for each 100k than to maintain an old car for the same. I don't follow the comment about diesel being cleaner.

All fuels are harmful petrol is more of a carsinigen than other fuels, now that diesel comes with DPF diesel cars omit less pollutants into the atmosphere I think ;)

Premium grade petrol in my current mkII fabia vRS = noticable gains in economy and performance. Premium grade diesel in my old mkI fab vRS = naff all difference.
