Go Pro HDThinking of getting something like this

Featured Replies

Thinking of getting something like this but don't know much about them apart from you see them all the time used on TV. I'll be getting a road bike shortly so want it for that plus wanted to get a windscreen mount to use in the car too. Anyone got one? Are there alternatives? Was thinking of Roadhawk but want something like this I can use on the bike too in all weathers.

Edit: Can someone sort the title out

I have one and was actually thinking of selling it. Not because there is anything wrong with it, but I recently bought the 2nd version that was released about a month ago. So I've now got two, with two motorsport mounting kits.

Think I've had it about 6 months and used it maybe 20 times.

They are good.

Much better than a Roadhawk or Blackvue drive recorder (I've got these too! :giggle: ) for actual footage, although it's so good you can't show other people on YouTube unless you upload the high definition version which takes ages. Watched on a HD TV it's like watching a DVD.

The new model is a little better.

Not a lot, just slightly improved in darkness and it now has an external microphone socket and HDMI socket so you can plug it into your TV.

Mind you, when I bought my version 1 I got a free HMDI player anyway so it wasn't a problem.

I think the new model carries a premium of about an extra £40.

The only criticism I have of the GoPro is that is doesn't have a screen to view what you are shooting, so you have to guess a little or mount it and them check by watching a bit of footage. But the angle is wide so it's not a major issue. Being square it's much easier to get the shot straight anyway, unlike the bullet cams I've used. These can be a pain as being cylinders it's easy to have the picture a bit wonky by a few degrees.

They are not drive recorders, so if using a GoPro as this you'll have to pop the SD card out every so often and wipe it. Once it's full it shuts down. The battery lasts about 90 minutes in my experience.

I hope this helps you.

Search for "GoPro HD" on Vimeo to find some sample footage, it's good!

Ah so it sounds perfect for what I want. I don't mind the fact it gets full. Less chance of it overwriting something important. Do they all come with the same mounts? I'll need a suction mount for the windscreen and a mount for my handlebars

No, they come as a bare camera with no mounts or in a pack with mounts for a particular purpose. I think there is a motorsport pack, a surfing pack and a bicycle pack. There may be one or two others... such as cheaper sets with just one mount.

For example, the motorsport pack comes with a suction mount, two curved sticky helmet mounts and two sticky flat mounts to go on the vehicle. I have a sticky flat mount up behind the rear view mirror so I can use it on track/road.

If you go this route you'll have to then buy a handle bar mount too. No pack comes with a suction mount and a handle bar mount. All the mounts and other parts can be bought seperately or in small packs.

Again, I have these. Including the handle bar mount if you want it.

The GoPro HD Motor comes with a waterproof case and mount, not sure about the other two.

They all come with the waterproof case.

It's the only way to mount the camera as the fixing point is on the case, the camera has no way to fix it in place.

It's the only one I've really looked at! :giggle:
