Strange Feeling (worried)

Featured Replies

Was driving into work this morning in my 2005 vRS fairly slowly on a B road and the steering started to feel odd. The only way to describe it was that I thought I had a flat tyre or the tyre had lost a lot of pressure. So I pulled over fully expecting this, checked all 4 wheels and they seemed fine, carried on with my journey to work very gingerly and had another quick look over in the car park under some light but cant see anything. I havn't checked the pressures on a gauge but the tyres certainly look ok and there doesnt appear to be any loss of pressure. So now I am worried there is another problem. One thing I will mention is that a few miles prior to this I heard a sound like I had driven over something, I didnt feel it through the steering but you know the sound if you drive over a large stone and it flicks up and makes a subtle rumble. Whether this is related is debatable but thought I had better mention it.

Any ideas on what to check would be appreciated so I can look at lunchtime and make sure its safe to drive home tonight.

Cheers.

Was there a noise like a flat tyre or you just mean it was pulling one way? more details on the issues your having are needed.

No there was no noise like a flat tyre, the steering just felt limp and the car felt like it was wandering thats why I initially thought it was low pressure, the feeling was exactly like if you were driving with a half inflated tyre.

Best check the pressures with a gauge to know for sure I'd say before you start looking into anything else. Check the tyres for any blowouts debris etc aswel

Also while your checking the tyres check the inside edge side wall for bulges incase the side wall has failed with you saying you heard a noise prior to the steering going funny.

Ok an update. Took both front wheels off and gave the tyres a thorough inspection and couldn't find any damage. Checked the pressures and they were down 1 or 2 psi so don't think that's the problem. Also gave all the ball joints and rods a good shake to check for play but nothing. On journey home it seemed ok but i was driving very passively in case there was a problem. Any other ideas of what to check would be appreciated.

Bushes mate...... sounds like the lower wishbone bushes tbh but best to get it checked out properly

Cheers for the reply. Would this be the rear console bush and the front bush on the wishbone that your refering to. If so will order them up as been wanting to put the Seat console bushes in.

Cheers

Also is it safe to drive if these bushes are the problem. I can deal with the issue I described for a few days until I can get the work done but I dont want the wheels to fall off unexpectedly.

Have the rear tyres been on for a while? When i got mine the walls were cracking. Due to them being weak they bulged out on the inside walls which caused a weird wobbling in the car like going over loads of tiny speed bumps. Before that though the car felt unstable like the back end was constantly wandering side to side...must have been because the walls were so weak the tyres were constantly rolling about?? Anyway new tyres sorted it
