Cost of puncture repairs

Featured Replies

Found a screw in the middle of one of my tyres, went to national tyres where I paid £10 last year for a repair, gave me it cheap due to being a regular customer, quoted me £19 with no chance of anything off so I said no thanks. Decided to ring kwick fit who a few years ago was offering free puncture repair, only paid for the valve and balancing about £12 only to be told its £21 now! Phoned a few places up and it ranged from £17.50 to £21 a few years ago I'm sure the most expensive cost £15. Seen puncture repairs done and it don't take long and price of consumables must come to under a fiver! Went past half the tyre places I phoned and all of them were quiet with staff sat around is it me or are they just getting greedy?

The time before Kwik fit was completely free, now 2 weeks ago £19.95, same in a lot of places, monopoly

Thought maybe they would give me a discount as the tyre's in the boot and they don't have to fit it but no gotta be £20 most of them were quite rude and young sounding I used to play all the tyre places off each other and get decent tyres cheap god knows what they would be like if I tried that now!

There's a lil place round the corner i'll try him tomorrow

Mine always happen on a Sunday, so everywhere else is closed

Gone are the days of a cheap quick repair + wheel balancing, around a fiver. (sigh)..

Whats make me laugh is the fact that they would rather let the tyre fitters sit around doing nothing than giving a few quid off and still make some cash

Find out where the local authority or the local taxi companies go to get their tyres sorted, these are usually the most competitively priced and know what they are doing.

Lucky I have tyre seal in all my wheels!

It's not shy from nails or glass!

Apparently life time warranty until the tyre wears out

What's tyre seat?

What's tyre seat?

 I think he means tyre seal

At our place if its in a middle, it is a 5 min job and you dont pay anything. That is what I do as a courtesy for customers.

My local Skoda dealer repaired mine for free (to my pleasant surprise - I hadn't even asked them) while it was in for a minor warranty issue (my previous car last year)

Finally got my tire repaired found that another one needed resealing to the rim think there was some corrosion. Total cost £15 only problem is that they didn't realize that they were directional so will have to go back in the morning to get one changed round

What's it with me and directional tyres today, put my bro's push bike tyre on the wrong way ffs!

Been there done that :giggle:

My last puncture repair in 2010 was £8 at an independent. This was a nail in the tyre causing slow pressure loss.

I got my 4 winters fitted onto my alloys, valved and balanced by a local mobile fitter for £30 all in 4 weeks ago.

Last one was £10 cash , £18 card . So go figure if my local place has got a cash in hand scheme going .

Bring this one back from the dead.....

Just paid £24.50 for a puncture repair at Kwik Fit!! Yes £24.50. *** insert swear here *** me!

Was surprised they fixed it as it was near ish to the side and a great bolt with washer stuck in.

They said if the bolt is less than 6mm they can repair, after measuring the bolt at 5.84mm they repaired it.

Suits me as the tyre is a pretty new Conti SC 5 and didn't fancy paying for another so soon!

So I left happy as I didn't need a new tyre and stunned at what I just paid for the repair! Glad I asked them to swap it back round with the spare for that price.

In my defence it was 5.30 pm on my way home and only place I could 'easily' get to.

rant over. Feel better now. :)

My local tyre place is dirt cheap, I know them all and a puncture is normally the price of a pint to the lad that repaired the puncture

Normally drop him a fiver, now you know why every one goes back for new tyres.

They are cheaper than the internet companies and valve and balance is thrown in

Picked up a nail in the middle of the tread nearside rear, on the way to the dealer for an MOT in my lads car last November, charged us £19 to fix the slow puncture and they didn't even replace the old valve (noticed later) :swear:

TP

Got a huge screw stuck in mine yesterday didnt realise till my tyre was flat. Must of deflated quickly. I got a screwdriver and screwed it in some more and pumped it up. Got me home... Just about. Dont think if can be fixed so new tyre time

Had this the other day on a newish tyre (rainsport2) . does this look repairable? Was told it wasn't by local backstreet place...kinda got feeling was told a fib.
