Engine Warning light

Featured Replies

Engine warning lights come on.... cars fine, no unusual noises or smells.... what does this light represent a fault with??

In the absence of anything obviously wrong, I think you will need to get a diagnostic scan carried out. Do you live near anyone with a VAG-COM?

not as far as i know, o well i'll take it down to the dealers tomorrow get it checked out before cars 3 years old next week. Its proberbally nothing wrong with the engine just a sensor that checks for things breaking has broken!

I had exactly the same thing a couple of weeks ago. My man at the local Skoda shop plugged in the blue computer, diagnosed it as a lambda probe fault, and booked it in for some attention. Said that these probes were always going, particularly on VWs for some reason, so they might take a few weeks to get. But in the meantime the wagon is still going OK so no problems.

Not saying this is wrong but...... surely you would have noticed something if there was a prob with the dv e.g. a lack of power, strange noise etc.

My thoughts exactly... no loss of power or noises noticed, guess there must be a sensor in the dump valve which has proberbly failed but they have replace the whole unit??.... anyway no loss all under warrantie and get an Octy 2 to play with for the day!

No sensor in the DV - just a diaphragm. It's remarkably low tech and relatively cheap too at

On a recent trip back from garage from having some warranty work done, I noticed the car was venting through the waste gate......no warning lights...just a strange noise....got me worried as this is bad for turbo.

Sure enough.....they had broken the top connection of the Bailey DV.

I can't remember anyone get a light on for the dv....error codes a plenty though. Will be interesting if the light comes on again.

Well thats what i've been told, like i said before no loss of performance or smells anywhere cars working perfectly fine so whatever they do thursday makes no odds to me, means i can get armrest and central locking looked @ at same time all free and maybe a new DV which will be better anyway!

thanks for the advice, will give it a go

On my way home, the Electronic Engine Testing light (Exhaust emissions) has come on and has not gone off. I have a Octavia Vrs and despite the warning light, car appears to run fine the same as you described before. This my first problem with the car.

My warranty ran out start of the month which is a bit annoying.

Gaff in another forum replaced his DV and it worked, but this did not work for you???

Going to take my car in as soon as, but fear it will be one of those tempermental problems.

I shall post the errors recorded after interigation.

Hope we shall be able to determine and resolve the problem promptly

Yeah i get the feeling this is gonna be very tempremental.... like you i've had no major problems, ARB and bushes changed (problems caused by speed humps not car), niggle wit locking - was resolved on the spot buy dealer..... tis a real shame, cars fantastic and its been a very happy 3 years just hope this can be resolved.

Even though the DTC 17705 was on mine it wouldn't necessarily put on the Engine light for a while, In 3 years of having the code I think the light only came on 2 or 3 times (40k on the car).

Do you anyone with VAGCOM near you?

If you do check out the error code, take it back and see what the dealer says.

Keep us updated on this and hope it get sorted.

Any idea of the error code that showed up?

Rpallet, sounds like your not having much luck.

Tried to get my car hooked up to VAGCOM, but failed to get one misserable skoda dealer to do it until next Wednesday! :(

I was planning to go to France next week in the car, but now it seems I shall have to alter my plans.

Keep me posted.

My initial thoughts were the temp sensor......hence my previous line of questioning.

It's ok to drive though generally. Had sensor changed and no problems thus far although it has been kno wfor the light to come back on even after sensor change.

I would like to think if the turbo has gone AWOL there would be some kind of error code.

Hope you get it all sorted.

Good luck with your car, im lucky with my dealers, if u take the car in with problem they take it straight round bak and vag-com it so they can decide what to to and when to book it in.

Got a call today, they spoke to skoda technical and found that the unknown codes that came up refer to a pump within the cooling system thats to be changed and they're gonna replace the turbo. All parts due next week so hopefully car will go in week after.

Slowly but shorly i think im gonna get whole engine replaced by looks of things!

Result!!

I was wrong to be so skeptical concerning the fault on my car. Turns out it was a faulty temperature sensor. The garage has replaced the sensor and I've had no problems since. :)

Although relieved it was not a serious fault I feel the need to express something
