Overspeay on plastic headlight! How do I get rid?

Featured Replies

Dealer had a smart repair done on my front corner and only just noticed a patch of overspeay on my headlight!!

How do I get rid? On glass I would have a bash straight away, but on plastic a bit different.

Any help?

How about nail varnish remover as a starting point?

On plastic?

Do you think it will be ok?

Clay bar with some lube

Got an autoglym clay bar kit? Might try it.

I'd stay away from chemicals on plastic/polycarb as they tend to react to each other badly.

At worst polish if it is realy bad though the light would probably need removed for this..

Clay should help if the paint is relatively fresh. :)

great link.

Cheers.

Never used a clay bar, I assume the spray the guy uses is the lubricant?

Does the clay dissolve or stay as a bar? Can the bar be used more than once?

Normally I'd use paint thinners and scrub it off but as the surrounding paint will not be fully hardened yet I'd suggest just using plain old wire wool, don't use scotch brute on it because it will matt the plastic..

Don't go anywhere near new polycarbonate headlights with solvents. They don't take to well to that sort of thing.

Use a Bilt Hamber Clay bar and you can use water as the lubricant

This WILL remove any overspray

DONT GO NEAR YOUR HEADLIGHTS WITH ANY SOLVENT!!!!

Neat paint thinner will do. Wipe off and it will evaporate.

erm...

NO!

I've seen someone wipe polycarbonate with that and it went all sticky and reacted.

Plastics and solvents don't mix. Hence my need for a replacement focusing screen on my D7000...

Suggest have word with the person who did the spraying, as opposed to any guessometry.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

It was the dealer who had the smart repair done, then let them figure it out (I assume the dealer paid the person who did the smart repair).
