Anyone herd of blackcode remap? Reveiws?

Featured Replies

I am getting my car mapped tomorrow by a company called blackcode who are a mobile service. It's one of my mates who's doing it and he said expect gains of about 35bhp and 70-80lbs torque (I have a fabia pd100)

He is charging £250 but it is customised to my preferences and the map offers a lifetime guarantee and a years guarantee on all the parts of the at that could be affected.

I am in Cheshire (northwest) and before anyone starts saying I would love to have a shark map but I don't fancy the trek down there.

Anyone got any reviews?

Cheers Jay

Never heard of them but that doesn't mean they're no good. One year warranty on all parts that could be affected?? Read the small print as you could argue that at least half of the car "could" be affected as a result of the remap.

Well, I paid £265 to P-Torque when i had mine, got a before and after print out and gains of 49bhp and (80lb/ft from memory)

Be interested to hear how a pd100 goes after a remap :) this is what I'm saving for! :)

I'll keep you updated mate :) I'm guesting it done tomorrow morning hopefully :)

I have the Blackcode 'code 2' map. It's okay, nothing has gone wrong in 15000 miles and it pulled 167hp and 289lbft on another mappers dyno. They don't really specialise on any Particular vehicle manufacturer. They didn't seem to know much about the Fabia vRS (nor did I at the time). My advice is go elsewhere e.g shark, P Torque, Unit 18.

£250 is a good price. I paid nearly £400. I have the warranty also, I'm no expert but I don't think it's worth the paper it's written on.

Technically a remap only "affects" the ECU as that's the only part they change. So your warranty is pretty much against a badly flashed ECU which I believe is a very low risk with serial port flashing. Anything else they might cover would be on a goodwill basis. £10 sensor fails after the map? Probably covered, it's not worth losing a £250 customer for it. £1000 clutch fails? You're on your own.

Any news on this? Want to know what a pd100 remap is like... :)

Fabla, I have mine mapped, by shark, and has transformed the car, fast yet economical , it was putting out 120bhp as standard , yet to put it on the rollers since :)

A pd100? As is fast off the start or through gears? Also does it pull right up to the redline?

When driven normally what's the mpg like in comparison to before?

Thanks

Pulls all the way through to the redline, but nice and smooth, no torque spikes, well usually going to work i used to get 49mpg, now I get 55mpg, that's a 45min motorway stint, I wouldn't go anywhere else but shark for a map, really impressed with the service from start to finish, updated me at every stage :)

Top Man, thanks for replying. I can not wait until I've got the money, I want the STS as well so that's why it's taking a little while to save for lol :(

Just to let you guys know, I had my car mappedon Thursday by black code and was very impressed with the service and the map. It was a friend of mine called dave Clark who works for black code. It cost £250 and they wrote a custom

Map for me :) it pulls so much more and is a smith map with more power gains nearer to where the turbo kicks in. It doesn't smoke to much and my fuel economy has

Increased slightly, they offer a lifetime gaurente on the map and a year on parts that it may affect. He also told me how to drive it to get the best performance. So overall I'm happy with the service :)

When you say it was a custom map, how did they customise it?

Did you drive it and he adjusted something or did they put it on rollers and adjust things?

Or did he just say "it's customised" to you?

As I said, the warranty won't be worth anything. A "lifetime warranty on the remap" entails what, exactly? Once the map's on, it won't change or disappear, you can disconnect the battery, VCDS scan, whatever. It's on there for life, or until you choose something else. So there's nothing to provide a warranty on. And as for "affected" parts, that's basically the ECU.

  • 6 years later...

Had BlackCode remap on my Golf CR 2.0tdi a few years ago. Initially I had judder around 1800RPM, so they altered some parameters which largely resolved the issue. Wizz forward 3 years I had to have a new gearbox (3 teeth had randomly sheared on input shaft), two new flywheels and clutch (OEM), two driveshafts. After the gearbox had been replaced a new DMF and clutch was fitted at the same time. At around 1600-1800RPM loads of judder like driving over a cattle grid. VAG specialist swapped DMF and clutch again, just to rule out faulty components; fault still there. I contacted Black Code and they said it was nothing to do with what they had done. Each driveshaft was replaced, but judder still there. Fortunately, my VAG specialist has access to a rolling road and was able to examine the map. It was found that the torque curve was too agressive for the transmission, fuel line pressure was  running much too high as was turbo boost pressure. The map was modified, problem solved. Guess Black Code don't really know what they are doing after all, I should have realised when I noticed that they didn't have a rolling road at thier Stafford HQ.
