clearing engine management warning light?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Got a check engine management warning lights yesterday, and as per advice on the forum here checked the brake lights and the drivers side light was out. have replaced the bulb now, my question is should this reset the warning light on the dash or does the light need to be reset with vagcom or similar?

the car is driving fine, the only difference i've noticed is that the revs while idling are slightly higher(just under 1000rpm, used to be one notch below that...).

have ordered a cheap code reader that should be able to reset the warning lights, but that won't arrive till next week, so i'm just wondering is it safe to assume that the brake light was the problem and keep driving, or should i wait for the code reader?

appreciate any info,

cheers

Yes check it as soon as possible, but if the root cause of that fault no longer exists, then the light will go out after about 6>10 engine starts, although the source of the light coming on originally will still be stored and should be noted then cleared. For having in the car, I've bought the Gendan VAG scan tool - and it works well although, as with any cheaper tool, you might need to search online for a full listing of fault codes.
